A computing device includes an appliance status table to store at least one of reliability and performance data for one or more network functions virtualization (NFV) appliances and one or more legacy network appliances. The computing device includes a load controller to configure an Internet Protocol (IP) filter rule to select a packet for which processing of the packet is to be migrated from a selected one of the one or more legacy network appliances to a selected one of the one or more NFV appliances, and to update the appliance status table with received at least one of reliability and performance data for the one or more legacy network appliances and the one or more NFV appliances. The computing device includes a packet distributor to receive the packet, to select one of the one or more NFV appliances based at least in part on the appliance status table, and to send the packet to the selected NFV appliance. Migration from a legacy network appliance to a network function virtualization (NFV) appliance

Disclosed is a source host including a processor. The processor operates a virtual machine (VM) to communicate network traffic over a communication link. The processor also initiates migration of the VM to a destination host. The processor also suspends the VM during migration of the VM to the destination host. The source host also includes a live migration circuit coupled to the processor. The live migration circuit manages a session associated with the communication link while the VM is suspended during migration. The live migration circuit buffers changes to a session state and transfers the buffered session state changes to the destination host for replay after the VM is reactivated on the destination host. The live migration circuit keeps the sessions alive during migration to alleviate connection losses.

Virtual machine migration while maintaining live network links

In one embodiment, a processor includes a current protection controller to: receive instruction width information and instruction type information associated with one or more instructions stored in an instruction queue prior to execution of the one or more instructions by an execution circuit; determine a power license level for the core based on the corresponding instruction width information and the instruction type information; generate a request for a license for the core corresponding to the power license level; and communicate the request to a power controller when the one or more instructions are non-speculative, and defer communication of the request when at least one of the one or more instructions is speculative. Techniques to monitor control plane network traffic

Technologies for live virtual machine migration include a plurality of compute nodes and a datacenter manager. The datacenter manager issues a request to migrate a virtual machine to a source compute node. The request includes a service level requirement such as a maximum migration time or downtime. The source compute node determines platform resources required to perform migration within the service level requirement and reserves the platform resources for a predicted migration time. The source compute node transfers virtual machine state to a destination compute node and releases the platform resources after the transfer is complete. The source compute node may use a hardware resource monitor or reservation manager to determine available platform resources and reserve the platform resources for exclusive use. If sufficient platform resources are not available, the source compute node may negotiate reduced service level requirements with the datacenter manager. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
