Embodiments herein disclose a method of enabling non-ICBM transmissions in the communication network. The method includes transmitting information of the number of receiver antennas at user equipments (UEs) intended to be scheduled by a transmitter in common resource elements, to a controller in the communication network. Further, the method includes receiving a number of non-Interference Cancelling Block Modulation (ICBM) transmissions from the controller. Furthermore, the method includes transmitting information indicating cell-identification numbers of participating transmitters, and corresponding index of ICBM precoder matrix of the participating transmitters to the UEs.

Interference cancelling block modulation

Embodiments herein disclose an Interference Cancelling Block Modulation (ICBM), a new open-loop precoding scheme where each transmitter is assigned with a predetermined precoder which facilitates interference cancellation at the receivers. Only a finite set of precoders will be used, and they will be assigned to each transmitter in a pre-determined manner. Usually, interfering transmitters located adjacent to each other will have different precoders, and the same precoder can be reused by non-adjacent transmitters. The precoders are represented by N&#xd7;K matrices and they expand the symbols in time and/or frequency by a factor of N/K while providing precoded sequences with low cross-correlation properties.

Methods and systems for performing channel estimation in a multiple antenna block transmission system are provided so as to improve the channel estimation quality and/or the delay spread of the channels that can be estimated.

Method and system for performing channel estimation in a multiple antenna block transmission system

A method and system for transmitting training information in a block transmission system is provided. The method includes transmitting a first information bearing unit by at least one transmit antenna. The method further includes transmitting a second information bearing unit by the at least one transmit antenna. The second information bearing unit is the first information bearing unit shifted by a frequency offset. As a result, the combination of the first information bearing unit and the second information bearing unit is substantially periodic. Further, the combination of the first information bearing unit and the second information bearing unit is one of preamble, midamble, or postamble.
