A system for controlling processor operations is disclosed that includes a first function configured to be performed by one or more algorithms operating on a processor to identify one or more participating storage controllers, each having a software controller handle, and to cache the software controller handles during a query to a driver. A second function configured to be performed by one or more algorithms operating on the processor to invoke the driver with the cached software controller handles.

Seamless creation of raid arrays with optimized boot time

An asset includes physical computing resources and a physical computing resources manager. The physical computing resources manager obtains a resource update for the asset; makes a determination that the resource update requires a reset of a portion of the physical computing resources; and, based on the determination, resets the portion of the physical computing resources during a low resource consumption reboot of the asset without resetting a second portion of the physical computing resources, the second portion of the physical computing resources are not reset as part of the low resource consumption reboot.

System and method for managing device updates

An asset includes physical computing resources and a physical computing resources manager. The physical computing resources manager obtains a power management update for a physical computing resource of the physical computing resources of the asset; in response to obtaining the power management update: obtains, using an out-of-band manager, a power management descriptor for the asset; updates the power management descriptor based on the power management update; stages the power management descriptor at a location; and performs a low resource consumption reboot using the location to implement the power management update.

System and method for managing component updates

Systems and methods for transferring firmware updates using an in-band interface are described. In an embodiment, an Information Handling System (IHS) may include a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution, cause the IHS to: receive a firmware update package having a payload; create a namespace in a persistent memory; copy the payload to a segment of the persistent memory associated with the namespace; and write, to an Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) variable, an Emulator Device Path (EDP) pointing to the payload.

Transfer of firmware updates using an in-band interface

An operating system (OS) may communicate with a basic input/output system (BIOS) at OS runtime to inform the BIOS of a firmware update storage location. A method may begin with receiving, by an OS, an update for a firmware of an information handling system. The OS may select a memory for storage of the firmware update and may store the firmware update in the selected memory. The OS may then store a location of the firmware update in a portion of a memory accessible by both the OS and the BIOS.

Firmware update architecture with OS-BIOS communication

A method for processing data is provided that includes starting a processor from an off state and loading watchdog timer handler code into a processor memory. Executing the watchdog timer handler code and determining whether a catastrophic error has occurred during execution of the watchdog timer handler code. Invoking a system management module to update error code if it is determined that the catastrophic error has occurred and invoking a first phase dispatcher to set up a first stack frame associated with a first phase if it is determined that a catastrophic error has not occurred.
