An asphalt-based nanocomposite useful as a coating for various applications including building materials products, such as shingles, is provided. The asphalt-based nanocomposites are particle-filled matrices that include an asphalt flux or derivate thereof and a layered clay mineral in an amount ranging from about 1 to about 15 weight %. Coated articles such as shingles including the asphalt-based nanocomposite are also disclosed as well as various methods of preparing the asphalt-based nanocomposite.

Pressure roller and heating element combination for a welding apparatus and a method designed to weld a first thermoplastic sheet laid on the deck of a roof structure and secured to the deck by a line of fastening means, and an overlapping second thermoplastic sheet disposed over the line of the fastening means. The tile vent includes two unitary panels facing each other in a mirror image fashion the top portion of which is affixed to a ridge board and the bottom portion of which is affixed to the undulating roof. Tile roof vent for covering the opening of the ridge of an undulating tile roof. The vent includes two panels spaced from each other, each of which has a hard plastic sheet with a lower portion and an upper portion. To the underside of the lower portions are affixed an air-permeable mat and optionally a layer of foam rubber which conform to the undulating configuration of the tile roof. The lower portions of the hard plastic sheets are reinforced by stiffeners integral with the hard plastic sheet and also contain vent holes for exhausting air from the attic space.
