A companion device for use with a server device, a media device and a display device, the server device having stored therein a metadata manifest including metadata and time data associated with content and being configured to transmit the metadata manifest, the media device being configured to provide the content and content timing information to the display device, the display device being configured to display media, the content timing information being additionally associated with the time data, the companion device comprising: a memory having instructions stored therein; and a processor configured to execute the instructions stored in the memory to cause the companion device to: receive the content timing information from the media device; transmit a manifest request to the server device based on the content timing information; receive the metadata manifest from the server device; and instruct the display to display an icon based on the metadata.

Method and system for synchronizing play position between main player and companion devices and providing value added services

Automatic configuration of network devices improves the control, management and configuration of a network environment. However, a network environment can include management software running on an access point device that is not compatible with or recognized by all network devices. The access point device using a network management software can obtain one or more configuration parameters associated with a network device that is not compatible, for example, uses a different protocol, and can send these configuration parameters to a network resource to obtain one or more configuration values necessary to configure a network device. The network resource, whether local to or remote from the access point device, can provide the one or more configuration values to the access point device as any type of data including a webform. The one or more configuration values allow the access point device to automatically configure any network devices.

Wi-Fi multiple access point—third party extender configuration

A controller, located at a network resource or as part of an access point device, can configure an access point device to selectively configure the backhaul (BH) and fronthaul (FH) connections of a network based on one or more network parameters associated with the network devices within the network. The controller can associate a 6 GHz band or high frequency band to the BH connection with legacy network devices associated to a lower frequency band for a FH connection while other network devices are associated to a higher frequency band, such as a 5 GHz band, for a FH connection based on the one or more network parameters. The controller can dynamically switch the other network devices to a 6 GHz or higher frequency band after an update of the one or more network parameters indicate network performance, for example, will be improved by the switch.

Orchestrating backhaul and fronthaul topologies in mixed mode mesh network

A user environment is controlled and altered based on one or more user conditions received from a biometric tracking services associated with a biometric device of a user. A user can set up a user profile that includes one or more user preferences including a biometric parameter, an asset parameter, a biometric service parameter and/or a location parameter. Based on the user preferences a user device and/or an access point device can control the user environment by altering one or more assets of one or more network devices specified by any one or more user preferences. The asset state of an asset can be altered based on one or more user conditions associated with a biometric parameter such that the user environment is automatically altered based on monitoring the one or more user conditions so as to provide the user an enhanced user environment experience.

Wi-Fi multiple access point—biometric based improvements

A method of configuring a client device at a customer premises is provided. An electronic message is received from a vendor of a client device with customer premise equipment (CPE) at the customer premises or a portable communication device. The electronic message provides configuration information for the client device. The configuration information includes a password and an access name of a service for use in configuring the client device via communications with a remote configuration server. The service is made available at the customer premises via the CPE or the communication device so that the client device automatically pairs to the service and is authenticated with the password to the configuration server via Internet connectivity capability of the CPE or portable communication device so that the client device may be configured. The client device has firmware preprogramed to automatically and securely access the service, when detected, at the customer premises.

Soft configuration and data exchange for in-home devices

It is common for device coupled to a primary network to have preferential access to network resources compared to a device coupled to a guest network. However, the quality of experience (QoE) is enhanced by providing automatic switching of a client device on a guest network to a primary network. The dynamic approach switches the network connection of a client device used by a guest user/client device from a guest network to a primary network based on one or more network conditions that are associated with the guest network, the primary network, or both. Seamlessly switching the client device to the primary network, when such does not impact existing users of the primary network, enhances the network experience of the client devices initially associated with the guest network.

WiFi multi-access point-SSID monitoring and provisioning enhancements

A system and method for enabling adaptive streaming management in a broadband multimedia environment. The system utilizes content information (title, streaming resolution, etc.), in conjunction with information indicative of one or more of display device resolution capabilities, device display resolution capabilities, total streaming bandwidth capability of broadband source, and the aggregate bandwidth of all streams being provided to client devices to provide an adaptive process by which media gateway resources can be utilized to improve the availability to optimized content to one or more users.

System and method for adaptive streaming management

This disclosure provides a system by which content/service providers can enable gaze-responsive advertisement/targeted content mechanisms for CPE devices like STB's/OTT streaming devices or systems or display devices. The system creates a new opportunity for content/service providers to advertise and helps in generating revenue. The system leverages using gaze-based technology in CPE devices like STB's or large display devices. A gaze-based algorithm helps the CPE devices to locate the viewer point of attention, using which gaze-responsive advertisement/content targeting can be achieved. The disclosure provides an end to end solution—from content creation to content consumption for gaze-responsive advertisement/media delivery.

A system, such as a gateway, is provided for use with a first access point device and a second access point device to scan channels within a spectrum of channels. The system includes; a delegating component that is operable to instruct the first access point device to monitor for a presence of a signal on any one of a first set of channels within a spectrum of channels and to instruct the second access point device to monitor for a presence of a signal on any one of a second set of channels within a spectrum of channels; a communication component operable to receive a channel-in-use signal from the first access point device and to transmit a notification signal to the second access point device based on the channel-in-use signal, the channel-in-use signal being associated with an in-use channel of the first set of channels within the spectrum of channels, the communication component is additionally operable to transmit the instruction to the first access point device and the second access point device, the communication component is further operable to receive a communication signal from one of the first access point device and the second access point device as a result of the transmission of the instruction; and a load balancing component operable to determine a communication volume on each of the first set of channels within the spectrum of channels, and to generate an instruction to instruct the first access point device and the second access point device to not use the in-use channel.

In home Wi-Fi channel scanning enhancements

An electronic device in a network capable of enhancing transmission efficiency of other electronic devices in the network is provided. The electronic device includes a network interface, a non-transitory memory having instructions stored thereon, and a hardware processor. The hardware processor is configured to execute the instructions to request transmission of data from another electronic device in the wireless network. Moreover, the hardware processor is configured to execute the instructions to receive, using the network interface, the data from the other electronic device using a first protocol, and determine a condition of a transmission delay of the data. In response to determining the condition of the transmission delay, an instruction is transmitted to the other electronic device to retransmit the data using a second protocol. The data is received from the other electronic device using the second protocol.

Enhancing transmission efficiency of electronic devices in a wireless network

A video player for playing a video stream that receives a master playlist identifying at least one variant playlist identifying a video file encoded as a series of video frames that when decoded provide the video stream. The video player based upon a configuration tag in the master play list selectively determining whether the video file is to be processed in a trusted execution environment. The trusted execution environment of the video player selectively includes at least one of (i) hack one, only hack one; (ii) output and link protection; (iii) hardware root of trust; and (iv) forensic watermarking, and decrypts and/or decodes the video stream in such an environment.

UHD HLS streaming trusted client server environment

Methods and systems of providing alternative targeted advertising (TAD) content are shown and disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes outputting a first TAD content during a TAD window, and receiving at least one user input requesting different TAD content during the TAD window. The method additionally includes outputting the different TAD content instead of the first TAD content during the TAD window after at least one predetermined amount of time from start of the TAD window in response to the at least one user input. In some embodiments, the method may further include re-outputting the first TAD content instead of the different TAD content during the TAD window in response to receiving user input requesting different TAD content when the predetermined amount of time associated with each of the different TAD content already has elapsed before receiving the user input.

Providing alternative advertising content

Streaming content protocols typically provide playlists, a file that lists the location of each segment of a content stream. The playlist may change as the content server adds content to the content stream or because the length of the content stream continues to grow. Client devices periodically fetch the playlist, and are unaware whether the playlist has changed, and thus may needlessly use bandwidth repeatedly fetching the same playlist. Throttling content download o provides systems and methods for controlling the download of streaming content-related data according to the current status of the playlist and possibly also current bandwidth availability. Content server, by monitoring client device related playlist position and client device content buffer can regulate content streaming, to improve network bandwidth distribution. A content server determines whether the playlist has changed since the last time the playlist was requested and denies a request for the playlist when the playlist has not changed. Similar mechanisms can be employed to improve bandwidth usage by a server that is not aware of changes to the playlist.

Throttling content download in adaptive HTTP live streaming

Methods and systems of managing advertising content are shown and disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes outputting first multimedia content from a first channel, and outputting TAD content from a TAD channel instead of the first multimedia content during a TAD window of the first multimedia content. The method additionally includes receiving a first user input requesting multimedia content of a content channel different from the TAD channel during the TAD window, and outputting the multimedia content of the content channel instead of the TAD content in response to the first user input.

Managing advertising content

An electronic device included in a network enhances the configuring of other electronic devices in the network. The electronic device includes a network interface, a non-transitory memory having instructions stored thereon, and a hardware processor. The hardware processor is configured to execute the instructions to transmit a first set of configuration data to another electronic device in the network, receive a message that the other electronic device was successfully configured using the first set of configuration data, and in response to the message transmit one or more next sets of configuration data to the other electronic device. Moreover, the hardware processor is configured to execute the instructions to receive a message that the other electronic device was not successfully configured using the first set of configuration data or the one or more next sets of configuration data and implement remedial action to address the unsuccessful configuration.
