A system and method includes a medical device configured to be inserted into a subject having an imaging coil coupled thereto and configured to be inserted into the subject during a medical procedure to provide tracking information regarding a position of the medical device. A circuit is connected to the imaging coil to switch the circuit between an energy harvesting configuration and an image data acquisition configuration. The circuit includes an energy harvesting path and an imaging data path connected to the imaging coil that are electrically distinct. An energy storage device is connected to receive power delivered along the energy harvesting path when the circuit is in the energy harvesting configuration. An amplifier is connected to receive power from the energy storage device and receive imaging data signals from the imaging coil over the imaging data path to thereby amplify the imaging data signals.

System and method for tracking a position of an interventional medical device using a magnetic resonance imaging system

A system and method of both tracking a medical device and generating an image in real time from the same set of radial data. A multi-mode medical device system having tracking, imaging, and visualizing capabilities is coupled to an MR scanner and multiple-echo VIPR acquisition sequence is applied to simultaneously provide conventional real-time imaging of the target region using an external coil, 3D tip-tracking information, and a localized higher-quality image showing the region surrounding the medical device using an internal multi-mode coil.

System and method for simultaneous 3DPR device tracking and imaging under MR-guidance for therapeutic endovascular interventions

A multi-mode medical device system and method of performing an interventional procedure. The multi-mode medical device system can be capable of MR internal imaging and of being tracked using an MRI system. The multi-mode medical device system can include a medical device, and an electrical circuit coupled to the medical device and electrically coupled to the MRI system. The electrical circuit can include a tracking device configured to transmit a signal to the MRI system indicative of the position of the tracking device relative to a roadmap image, and an imaging device electrically coupled to the tracking device and configured to internally image anatomical structures from the point of view of the medical device. The imaging device can be further configured to be visualized using MR imaging. Tracking the tracking device and internally imaging with the imaging device can be performed in a single pass of the multi-mode medical device system.

Multi-mode medical device system and methods of manufacturing and using same

A system and method of tracking a medical device and generating an image of a target area. The medical device includes a tracking device to create an imaging field-of-view that extends beyond the tip of the medical device while allowing the tip of the medical device to be visualized. The medical device further includes an imaging/visualization device to create an imaging field from the point of view of the medical device. A voltage standing wave suppression device is formed on the exterior surface of the medical device to prevent the formation of voltage standing waves and localized tissue heating. The voltage standing wave suppression device includes two cable traps spaced apart from one another with each cable trap being formed of a closely packed coiled region of a conductor extending the length of the medical device.

Voltage standing wave suppression for MR-guided therapeutic interventions

An RF coil assembly for an MRI system includes a resonator formed by a cylindrical shield and pairs of opposing conductive legs disposed symmetrically around a central axis and extending the axial length of the shield. Drive circuitry for each pair of opposing conductive legs includes a current balun that maintains substantially equal and opposite currents in the two conductive legs. Terminal susceptance elements are used to maintain maximum currents and minimum voltage at the midpoints of the conductive legs. Multinuclear measurements can be made simultaneously at different Larmor frequencies.

RF coil assembly for magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy systems

A RF transmit coil decoupling circuit in a parallel drive configuration comprises a power amplifier and an output matching network to shim the Bfield in response to inhomogeneities therein. The separate coil segments in a transmit array are effectively decoupled from each other despite inherent mutual inductance between coil segments by the decoupling circuit. The output matching network forms a high impedance block seen by the coil elements, while it provides a load line impedance at the output of the power amplifier. The transmission line transformer in the output matching network suppresses higher order harmonics for clearer RF wave forms. It also dampen the Q factor of the output matching network allowing stable operation with a series tuned coil element.

An RF coil assembly for an MRI system includes a resonator formed by a cylindrical shield and pairs of opposing conductive legs disposed symmetrically around a central axis and extending the axial length of the shield. One set of conductive leg pairs is tuned to operate at the Larmor frequency ofC and another set is tuned to operate at the Larmor frequency ofH. Drive circuitry operates the RF coil assembly to produceH spin magnetization which is transferred toC magnetization by the nuclear overhauser effect and to acquire MR data from theC spins. Multinuclear measurements can be made simultaneously at different Larmor frequencies.
