Disclosed is a method and apparatus to provide an IP connection between a mobile station (MS) and a computing device (CD). The method includes initiating the set up of the IP connection with a command sent from the CD to the MS over a local interface () and, in response to receiving over the local interface an IP message at the MS from the CD, routing the received IP message to an application that is resident in the MS. 2. In a presently preferred first embodiment the command is an AT command, more specifically an AT+CRM command having a value of five. In a presently preferred second embodiment the command places the MS into an auto-answer mode, and is an ATSO=1 command.

Method and apparatus to terminate dial-up connections on mobile devices

A system for handing off a mobile node includes a mobile node and a target foreign agent. To effectuate a handoff of the mobile node from an anchor foreign agent to the target foreign agent, a tunnel can be established therebetween such that data packet(s) sent between the mobile node and a correspondent node pass between the target foreign agent and the anchor foreign agent through the tunnel. After the tunnel is established, the mobile node can register with the target foreign agent to thereby bind the mobile node to the target foreign agent such that data packet(s) sent between the mobile node and the correspondent node pass through the target foreign agent to the correspondent node independent of the anchor foreign agent and the tunnel. Thereafter, the target foreign agent can close the tunnel between the target foreign agent and the anchor foreign agent.

System and associated mobile node, foreign agent and method for link-layer assisted mobile IP fast handoff

Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating concurrent effectuation of more than one packet data communication session at a mobile node. Both a normal packet data communication session and, for instance, an IOTA provisioning session are concurrently performed. A second packet data session initiator initiates the communication session through generation of a registration request. A communication session is formed, and a communicator communicates pursuant to the communication session, concurrent with performance of the first packet data communication session. Because both communication sessions are concurrently performable, one or the other of the communication sessions need not be terminated to permit the other of the communication sessions to be performed.
