A system for providing wireless telecommunications services to mobile devices includes structure and functionality for location-based services, and includes both server and client/mobile device apparatuses. One apparatus includes a data store storing at least a first record associated with a first wireless device or a second record associated with a second wireless device. A computer is coupled to the data store and is configured to receive a request from the first wireless device to obtain location information associated with the second wireless device. The computer is configured to receive a change location privileges request, and to update the first or second records in the data store based on the received change request. Other apparatuses provide additional structures and functions.

Apparatus and systems for providing location-based services within a wireless network

Systems and methods are for registering and authenticating an unmanaged IP device to an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS). An exemplary method includes implementing a system from which an unmanaged IP device retrieves IMS credentials needed to register and authenticate to the IMS. The system is remote to the unmanaged IP device and is accessible to the unmanaged IP device through an IP access network. The method further includes permitting the unmanaged IP device to register and authenticate to the IMS with the IMS credentials received from the system.

The system can determine a local time, or time zone, of the first or second mobile devices. Further, with one or a minimum number of menu choices, a user of a mobile device may readily receive a location of a user or another mobile device.

A system for providing wireless telecommunication services to mobile devices includes structure and functionality to manage permissions for location-based services. One method includes receiving a stop request with respect to one mobile device to stop other mobile devices from receiving location information with respect to the one mobile device. The method updates a central database based on the received stop request, and prohibits other mobile devices from receiving location information with respect to the one mobile device until a request to remove the stop is received. A system for providing wireless telecommunications services to mobile or wireless devices includes data structures and related functionality. One data structure includes at least one location-based services data structure for a wireless device or a user of the wireless device. The location-based services data structure includes first and second data structures representing tables of friends. The first data structure represents a table of friends who may receive a location of the user's wireless device, while the second data structure represents a table of friends who have permitted the user to receive a location of wireless devices associated with them. Various other data structures, functionality and systems are disclosed.

A put transaction is intercepted and communicated from an application to a database driver. The transaction is committed to a target database of the transaction and a backup database of the target database when both the target database and the backup database are available. When one of the target database and the backup database is an unavailable database, the transaction is recorded in a file. When the unavailable database becomes an available database, the transaction is committed to the available database.

The method includes partitioning wireless service subscribers to location-based services into first and second sets, based at least in part on consideration received, wherein wireless service subscribers in the second set receive access to premium content or services. The location-based services may be integrated other applications, including applications hosted by subscribers. The system may determine that a subscriber-friend is not a subscriber to certain location-based services and provide solicitation messages to the subscriber-friend, or a user who may request location information with respect to the subscriber-friend.
