According to an update procedure for a network of interconnected nodes, a node keeps track of markers received on the node's incoming channels, transmits a marker on each outgoing channel (if any exist), and updates its node configuration from an old configuration to a new configuration. In one version of the update procedure, the node updates its configuration and transmits markers after receiving its initial incoming marker. In another version for acyclic networks, the node updates its configuration and transmits markers after receiving its final incoming marker. The node determines how to handle (i.e., process, queue, or drop) each incoming data packet based on (i) whether or not it has updated its node configuration yet and (ii) whether or not it has received a marker on the corresponding incoming channel yet. A controller initiates the update process at a subset of nodes that ensures eventual completion of the update process.

An apparatus includes baseband processing circuitry configured to generate a baseband signal that is transmitted to a first network element and a second network element, and an optical power supply configured to generate a first optical signal and a second optical signal, transmit the first optical signal to the first network element, and transmit the second optical signal to the second network element. Methods and apparatuses for beacon assisted low power localization

The present application is at least directed to an apparatus in a system including a non-transitory memory with instructions stored thereon for decoding a message from a beacon device. The apparatus also includes a processor, operably coupled to the non-transitory memory, configured to execute the instructions of receiving, via a deployment server, data about the system including a decryption key associated with the beacon device. The processor is also configured to execute the instructions of listening for a signal from the beacon device transmitted via low energy. In an example embodiment, a device includes a memory having computer-readable instructions stored therein and a processor. The processor is configured to execute the computer-readable instructions to configure a device as a node in a cloud storage structure formed over a local area network and exchange a file available on the cloud storage structure without obtaining the file from a remote server outside of the cloud storage structure.

The method includes duplicating each packet of an original packet stream for which an associated importance level satisfies an importance condition, inserting each duplicate packet within the original packet stream to form thereby a modified packet stream, and transmitting the modified packet stream toward a wireless terminal adapted for processing the modified packet stream for presenting the media content conveyed by the original packet stream. The invention includes a method and apparatus for scheduling multicast transmissions in a wireless network by selecting one of a plurality of multicast groups of a cellular region that is permitted to transmit information during a current timeslot. A method includes receiving data rate request values from wireless user terminals of each of a plurality of multicast groups, assigning a data rate to each multicast group using the data rate request values of wireless user terminals belonging to the respective multicast groups, selecting one of the multicast groups using the assigned data rates, and transmitting information to the selected one of the multicast groups at the associated assigned data rate. In one embodiment, the multicast scheduling algorithm may be a multicast proportional fairness (MPF) scheduling algorithm which attempts to maximize utility value of data received by individual users. In one embodiment, the multicast scheduling algorithm may be an inter-group proportional fairness (IPF) scheduling algorithm which attempts to maximize utility value of data received by multicast groups.

Method and apparatus for multicast scheduling in wireless networks

An embodiment of the exemplary SoftRouter architecture includes two physically separate networks, a control plane network and a data plane network. The data plane network is one physical network for the data traffic, while the control plane network is another physical network for the control traffic. The topology of the data plane network is made up of interconnected forwarding elements (FEs). The topology of the control plane network is made up interconnected control elements (CEs). This physical independence of the control plane network from the data plane network provides for a secure mechanism to communicate among the CEs in the control plane network. In addition, this physical independence provides improved reliability and improved scalability, when compared to the traditional router architecture, where control plane message are in-band with the data plane.

A network architecture includes one or more feature servers and control servers in a control plane that is logically separate from a data plane that includes forwarding elements. Feature servers facilitate adding network-based functionality in a centralized way that is has better scalability than the traditional router architecture. Some examples of network-based functionality are voice over IP, enhancing QoS support, scaling BGP route reflectors, network-based VPN support, scaling mobile IP support, introducing IPv6 into existing and future networks, and enhancing end-to-end network security. Feature servers remove complexity from routers, allow functions to be implemented on a standard-off-the-shelf server platform, facilitate easy introduction of value-added functions, and scale well.

The invention includes a method and apparatus for providing multimedia content. The method includes receiving, at a network element having a first buffer, a data stream conveying a media clip having an associated media bit rate, the media clip intended for transmission toward a wireless terminal having a second buffer, and transmitting the data stream toward the wireless terminal at a media transmission rate determined according to a data rate supported by a radio access network over which the data stream is transmitted toward the wireless terminal. Method and apparatus for advertisement delivery in wireless networks
