An apparatus, according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a vehicle structural component that has a plurality of open cells surrounding an open center section. The open center section comprises a multi-corner open center. A method according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, extruding a vehicle structural component from a metallic material, wherein the vehicle structural component includes a plurality of open cells surrounding an open center section, and wherein the plurality of open cells each comprise a polygonal cross-section and the open center section comprises a multi-corner open center.

A door assembly includes a door trim panel, a first airbag coupled to the door trim panel and inflatable to an inflated position, a second airbag coupled to the door trim panel and spaced in a vehicle-rearward direction from the first airbag and inflatable to an inflated position, and an inflator in simultaneous fluid communication with both the first and second airbags when the first and second airbags are in the inflated positions.

Three-chamber frontal impact airbag with controlled pressure differentials

A motor vehicle door and armrest assembly using a thin plate that is vertically strong while laterally collapsible. The plate is comprised of a matrix of intersecting parallel struts forming four sided cells having a first set of opposing acute angles and a second set of opposing obtuse angles. The obtuse angles span a direction normal to the motor vehicle door and allow the plate to more easily limit force transmission from a side impact force. The struts are coupled to a frame, the coupling struts variable in cross sectional area to further determine the lateral stiffness of the plate.

Thin plate structural support for a motor vehicle armrest

A side curtain air bag system deploys downward during a crash event into a protection zone overlapping an out-of-position head region. An inflator discharges an inflation gas upon the occurrence of the crash event. The system employs an inflatable bag including first, second, and third chambers. The second chamber has a respective deployed position coinciding with the out-of-position head region. The first chamber has a respective deployed position between the B-pillar and the deployed position of the second chamber. The third chamber has a respective deployed position along a lateral edge of the inflatable bag so that the second chamber is disposed between the first and third chambers. The chambers are configured so that the third chamber substantially fills prior to expansion of the second chamber, whereby the inflatable bag substantially completes its downward movement prior to full expansion of the second chamber.

A vehicle structural reinforcement system includes: a first pillar; a second pillar; a vehicle door between the first and second pillars; a first crossbeam attached to the door; and a first locking hinge attached to the second pillar. The first crossbeam comprises a first hooked end configured to engage the first locking hinge. The second pillar includes a reinforcement ring and wherein the first locking hinge is attached to the reinforcement ring.

Vehicle structural reinforcement system

The present disclosure relates to various vehicle structural reinforcement systems and methods of manufacturing the same. A latching system is included in the vehicle to mechanically link two vehicle structural members under preselected conditions.

A pull cup in a vehicle door is solidly connected to the door inner panel by mechanical fastening. The armrest substrate structure is also solidly connected to the door inner panel by mechanical fastening. The armrest substrate has a pull cup-receiving cavity formed therein as is generally known in the art. The pull cup is not mechanically fastened to the armrest substrate. This arrangement is strong in tension but is weak in compression.

A side impact airbag and deployment system including an inflator is provided. The airbag has a generally B-shaped, or hour-glass, configuration and has a broad shoulder loading portion, a narrow central portion, and a broad pelvis loading portion.
