The light-emitting elements are placed to meet conditions that the number B of light-emitting elements per unit area (cm) of a mounting part is not less than 0.4 and a mean mounting density D is not less than 58 to not greater than 334, when a relationship of formula 'D=A&#xd7;B' is established, assuming D as a mean mounting density of light-emitting elements on a substrate, A as a current (mA) flowing through one light-emitting element, and B as the number of light-emitting elements per unit area (cm) of a substantial mounting part for light-emitting elements.

Mercury-free high-pressure discharge lamp and luminaire using the same

A metal vapor discharge lamp whose near-infrared radiation is stronger than a conventional high-pressure discharge lamp, a projector utilizing this discharge lamp, and a metal vapor discharge lamp lighting device are disclosed. The metal vapor discharge lamp comprises a refractory light-transmitting hermetic vessel, a pair of electrode fixed to the hermetic vessel, and a discharge medium sealed in the hermetic vessel and containing a halide and a rare gas. Most of the light irradiated when the discharge lamp is in the ON state has near-infrared wavelengths (750&#x2013;1100 nm).

A metal halide lamp comprises a refractory, light-transmitting airtight container defining therein a discharge space with an internal volume of not more than 0.1 cc, electrodes sealed in the container, opposing each other with a distance of not more than 5 mm interposed, and a discharge medium sealed in the container and including a metal halide material and a rare gas. The metal halide includes first and second halide materials. The first halide material contains scandium (Sc) and sodium (Na) halides. The second halide material contains at least one of indium (In) and zinc (Zn) halides. The discharge medium contains substantially no mercury. The load on the wall of the container in a stable state is 50 W/cmor more. Metal halide lamp with electrodes having a curved surface part and automotive headlamp apparatus

A metal halide lamp comprises a light-transmitting discharge vessel having a discharge space portion, a sealed portion, and a pair of electrodes projecting into the discharge space. The discharge vessel is constructed and arranged to have a D/L ratio being in a range of about 0.25 to about 1.5 and a t/L ratio being in a range of about 0.16 to about 1.1, wherein L is an interspace of tips of the electrodes, D is a maximum inner diameter of the discharge vessel, and t is a maximum wall thickness of the discharge space portion. An ionizable filling contains a rare gas and a metal halide including at least sodium (Na) or scandium (Sc) and does not substantially include mercury (Hg). Each of conductive wires is connected electrically to the electrodes extending from the discharge vessel. The metal halide lamp may be used for a metal halide lamp apparatus or a vehicle lighting apparatus.

An electrodeless discharge lamp unit includes an electrodeless discharge lamp that has a luminescent tube with an excitation coil wound round and an auxiliary tube, a high-tension applying circuit to apply pulse voltage of a peak value that is able to dielectric break the discharge space in the luminescent tube and a current injection circuit to apply voltage, that is able to maintain non-ring shaped discharge formed in the luminescent tube by applying pulse voltage by a high-tension applying circuit even when the application of pulse voltage is suspended, to the end of the auxiliary tube.
