An optical incoupling element () provided in the form of a discrete item attachable on a lightguide () is provided, comprising a substrate (A) and at least one three-dimensionally formed optical surface (). The optical surface () is configured to incouple light incident thereto and to adjust direction of the incoupled light transmitted through an optical contact surface () established at an interface between the element substrate (A) and a lightguide medium () such, that the incoupled light acquires a propagation path through a lightguide medium () via a series of total internal reflections. The optical surface () may comprise at least on optical cavity pattern (). The element () is configured to receive light onto said at least one three-dimensionally formed optical surface () from a direction essentially parallel to a longitudinal plane of the planar lightguide (). A lightguide component for illumination devices having an exit surface includes: a lightguide layer having a light-receiving portion to receive light emitted from a light source, a first principal face at the exit surface side, and a second principal face at an opposite side from the first principal face; a light distribution controlling structure having a plurality of internal spaces, each of the plurality of internal spaces including a first slope to direct a portion of light propagating in the lightguide layer toward the exit surface via total internal reflection, and a second slope at an opposite side from the first slope, wherein, when viewed from a normal direction of the first principal face of the lightguide layer, the first slope presents a curved surface that is convex toward the light source; and an anti-reflection layer and/or anti-glare layer disposed at the first principal face side of the lightguide layer.

A desktop illumination device includes a light source; and a light guide including a light guide plate. The light guide plate has a light incident surface and first and second main surfaces. An angle at which an intensity becomes maximum in a light distribution of light emitted from the first main surface is in a range of −90° or more to less than 0°, in a case where an axis passing through a center of the first main surface and perpendicular to an installation surface is defined as a vertical axis, and in a plane including the vertical axis and perpendicular to the installation surface, a direction parallel to the installation surface is defined as vertical 0°, an upward angle with respect to the vertical 0° is defined as a positive angle, and a downward angle with respect to the vertical 0° is defined as a negative angle.

The present invention is intended to provide a laminated film including a void-provided layer achieving both a high proportion of void space and a high film strength. The laminated film of the present invention includes a void-provided layerand a resin film, the void-provided layerbeing stacked on the resin film. The laminated film is produced by a production method, including steps of forming a void-provided structure', which is a precursor of the void-provided layeron the resin film; and causing a crosslinking reaction in the precursor&#x2032; after the precursor forming step. The precursor&#x2032; contains a substance that generates a basic substance by light irradiation or heating, the basic substance is not generated in the precursor forming step, the basic substance is generated by light irradiation or heating in the crosslinking reaction step, and the crosslinking reaction step has multiple stages.

A film is provided with void spaces having a porous structure with less cracks and a high proportion of void space as well as having strength. The film with void spaces includes one kind or two or more kinds of structural units that form a structure with minute void spaces, wherein the structural units are chemically bonded through catalysis. For example, the abrasion resistance measured with BEMCOT&#xae; is in the range from 60% to 100%, and the folding endurance measured by the MIT test is 100 times or more. The film with void spaces can be produced by forming the precursor of the silicone porous body using sol containing pulverized products of a gelled silicon compound and then chemically bonding the pulverized products contained in the precursor of the silicone porous body. The chemical bond among the pulverized products is preferably a chemical crosslinking bond among the pulverized products.

The present invention is intended to provide a laminated optical film achieving both a high proportion of void space (porosity) and superior abrasion resistance. The laminated optical film of the present invention includes: a void-provided layer; a resin film; and a cover layer, wherein the void-provided layer is formed on the resin film, the cover layer is formed directly on the void-provided layer, and the void-provided layer has a contact angle with water of 90&#xb0; or more and a proportion of void space of 30 vol % or more.

The present invention provides a new member having a low refractive index as a substitute for an air layer, for example. The laminated film roll of the present invention includes a long laminated film roll including: an ultra-low refractive index layer having a refractive index of 1.20 or less; and a resin film, wherein the ultra-low refractive index layer is stacked on the resin film. The method of forming the long laminated film roll of the present invention includes steps of: preparing a liquid containing microporous particles; coating a resin film with the liquid; and drying the liquid applied on the resin film, for example.

The present invention is directed to an optical member including: a first layer that includes a first region having a refractive index nand a second region having a refractive index n; and a second layer disposed on a first main surface of the first layer so as to be in contact with the first region and the second region, the second layer having a refractive index n. The first layer includes a plurality of said second regions adjoining the first region along a planar direction of the first layer; the plurality of second regions constitute a geometric pattern; and nto nsatisfy the relationship n1&#x3c;n3&#x3c;n2. When an optical member according to the present invention is integrated with a lightguide in use, excellent light extraction function is exhibited and leakage of light due to light scattering is suppressed, while attaining good mechanical strength at the same time.
