An image forming apparatus includes a document unit having a document table on which a document is placed and is reciprocated, a photoconductive drum, an exposure unit for exposing the photoconductive drum in order to form a latent image of a document placed on the document table on the photoconductive drum, a developing device for developing the latent image formed on the photoconductive drum into a toner image, a fusing unit for fixing the toner image to a paper sheet and a paper measuring device for measuring the size of the first copying paper sheet sequentially and continuously fed from a paper feeding unit, so that for the following paper sheets, a moving distance of the document unit is determined in correspondence with the measured paper size.

Image forming apparatus

An electrophotographic imaging method comprises a first process for charging an electrically insulating layer formed on the surface of a photosensitive drum, and a second process for image-exposing the charged insulating layer to form an electrostatic latent image thereon. The first process includes a first step for bringing a pliable contactor having a specific electric resistance of 10.sup.8 .OMEGA..multidot.cm in contact with the insulating layer, and a second step for impressing a voltage on the contactor in contact with the insulating layer by means of an electrode having a specific resistance lower 10.sup.5 to 10.sup.7 .OMEGA..multidot.cm. Thus the insulating layer is charged.

Imaging method using a charged insulating layer

A copying apparatus is provided with a microprocessor having a memory storing programs for executing various diagnostic modes. When a combination check mode is designated by an operator selecting a combination of keys on the ten keys of a keyboard, the microprocessor causes two driving elements to operate, e.g., a motor for rotating a photoconductive drum and a clutch for moving a cleaning blade, both specified by the combination mode, the microprocessor then checking the combined operation of the motor and clutch.
