A device may determine multicast information associated with participating in a multicast. The multicast information may include a virtual rendezvous (RP) address and may identify a multicast group. The device may identify a primary RP address and a secondary RP address associated with the multicast group. The primary RP address may identify a primary RP device and the secondary RP address may identify a secondary RP device. The device may identify an active RP device. The active RP device may be the primary RP device or the secondary RP device. The device may replace the virtual RP address, included in the multicast information, with information that identifies the active RP device. The information that identifies the active RP device may be the primary RP address or the secondary RP address. The device may participate in the multicast based on the information that identifies the active RP device.

A method includes identifying, by a first router, a number of label switched paths from the first router to a destination router, wherein each of the label switched paths includes less than a predetermined number of routers. The method may also include storing, for each of the label switched paths, information identifying each router in the label switched path. The method may further include identifying a least cost label switched path based on the stored information.

A fiber optic communication system includes a first fiber optic device configured to transmit a fiber optic signal. A second fiber optic device is in fiber optic communication with and configured to receive the fiber optic signal from the first fiber optic device. The second fiber optic device includes an adjustment circuit configured to automatically adjust the fiber optic signal if the fiber optic signal is transmitted outside of a predetermined signal strength range.

A network device determines that an outgoing network-to-network interface has dropped one or more network control packets and incrementally adjusts, based on the determining, a drop threshold parameter for the network control packets to give preference to the network control packets over non-network control packets. After the adjusting, the network device monitors traffic over the interface, and preempts, based on the monitoring, a low-priority label switched path (LSP) using the interface when the interface reaches a congested threshold or when the interface has dropped one or more other network control packets. The network device restores the low-priority LSP to the interface when the interface has reached an uncongested threshold.
