A powder container includes a body and a pair of walls that blocks one longitudinal end of the body and the other longitudinal end of the body. Powder is accommodated within the powder container which is mounted to an apparatus using the powder in a posture where a longitudinal direction of the body is a transverse direction of the apparatus. The powder container has an opening, through which the powder is supplied to the apparatus, formed in a lower position of the body in a posture where the powder container is mounted to the apparatus. The powder container includes a shutter and a shield. The shutter is, prior to mounting the powder container to the apparatus, in a closed location to block the opening and, when the powder container is mounted, is moved along an outer peripheral surface of the body to an opened location to open the opening.

The present invention provides a composite color image forming method. The method includes electrically charging a latent image-holding member; exposing the charged latent image-holding member to light to form an electrostatic latent image; developing the electrostatic latent image with a two-component developer containing toner particles of one color and a carrier to form a toner image on the latent image-holding member; primarily transferring the toner image from the latent image-holding member to an intermediate transfer member; repeating the electrically charging, the exposing, the developing, and the primarily transferring, while the toner particles are replaced with toner particles of different color, to form a composite color image on the intermediate transfer member; and secondarily transferring the composite color image from the intermediate transfer member to a recording medium. The carrier contains magnetic substance-dispersed core particles in which a magnetic substance is dispersed in a resin, and a coating layer that coats the surface of each of the magnetic substance-dispersed core particles at a covering rate of 95% or more. In addition, the carrier has a degree of circularity of 0.970 or more. The intermediate transfer member is a belt that has a substrate whose Young's modulus is in the range of 3,000 to 6,500 MPa. During the primary transferring, primary transfer nip pressure is in the range of 8 to 20 gf/cm, and a value (T/P) obtained by dividing a primary transfer current value T (&#x3bc;A) by a processing speed P (mm/sec) is from 0.08 to 0.18.

A developer for a trickle developing method is used in formation of a full color image and is made of a mixture of a toner and a carrier. The toner contains inorganic fine particles as an internal additive and an external additive, a volume average particle diameter D of the toner is between 5.0 and 9.0 &mgr;m, a true specific gravity of the carrier is between 3.00 and 4.60, a volume average particle diameter of the carrier is between 15 and 60 &mgr;m, and the ratio of the volume average particle diameter of the carrier to the volume average particle diameter of the toner is between 3.00 and 7.00, and an image forming method using the developer. Provided is a toner having good offset resistance and capable of giving non-glaring, high-quality images with high OHP transparency, and a method of image formation with it. The toner includes at least a binder resin, a colorant and a wax. The THF soluble component of the toner, as analyzed through gel permeation chromatography, has a number-average molecular weight falling between 2500 and 5500, a weight-average molecular weight falling between 13000 and 25000, and a peak molecular weight falling between 5000 and 15000, and contains a fraction having a molecular weight of at least 10,in a ratio of at most 10% by weight of the component and a fraction having a molecular weight of at least 10,in a ratio of from 30 to 70% by weight of the component, and the wax in the toner has a DSC endothermic peak falling between 50 and 120&deg; C.
