A thermal spraying device with a first blowing mechanism for lengthening a droplet formed near the tips of thermal spraying materials by arc, and a second blowing mechanism for a blowing a tip portion of the lengthened droplet to atomize it into droplets and to scatter atomized droplets towards a face to be thermally sprayed. The first blowing mechanism lengthens the droplet so that the second blowing mechanism propels air to the tip portion of the lengthened droplet that is separated from a location where the tips of thermal spraying materials are adjacent and the arc is generated. Arcing between the tips of the thermal spraying materials continues stably, and satisfactory thermal spraying is possible.

Thermal spraying device and thermal spraying method

A stainless steel separator, which is good of corrosion-resistance and low of contact-resistance, is proposed for a fuel cell. Its surface faced to a fuel electrode is pickled, which the other surface faced to an oxidizing electrode is roughened by electrolytic etching or the like. The roughening treatment may be performed before or after pickling and passivation. The roughened surface of the stainless steel separator without pickling or passivation may be faced to the oxidizing electrode.

A forming method is provided that has surface pits, and the formed product thereof including a member adjust step for obtaining a member having a surface layer portion constructed by weak portions and high strength portion of relatively higher strength than the weak portions; and an inject step for injecting high pressure fluid to a surface of the member to remove at least a part of the weak portions for forming pits. That is, the weak portions are presented on the surface layer portion of the member on which the surface pits are to be formed. The high pressure fluid is injected to the surface layer portion to remove the weak portions from the member surface layer portion. The removed portion in the weak portions form the pits.

A thermal spraying method includes the steps of: (1) preparing a speed-increasing means for adding energy to the heated material or the heating material to increase a flying speed of the material; and (2) adding energy to the heated material or the heating material by the speed-increasing means in such a manner that a flying speed of the heated material or the heating material increases until the material reaches a surface of an object.

Thermal spraying method and apparatus for improved adhesion strength

In a method of manufacturing a sliding member, a granular spraying material is sprayed on at least a part of a surface of a body portion made of a structural material in at least partially fusing condition and in the direction which is parallel to or diagonal to a sliding surface. Then, a sprayed layer is formed by depositing the spraying material in the direction which is perpendicular to the sliding surface. The sliding surface is a section of the deposited spraying material which is obtained by grinding or cutting the sprayed layer in depositional direction. A piston comprises a piston body having a broad groove which is broader than a ring groove, a sprayed layer comprising a lower sprayed layer which is formed by spraying the spraying material in the direction which is diagonal to an outer periphery of the broad groove and which contains higher ratio of spraying particles having low fusion temperature, and an upper sprayed layer which is formed by spraying the spraying material in the direction which is perpendicular to the outer periphery of the broad groove and which contains higher ratio of spraying particles having high fusion temperature, and a ring groove which is formed by grinding or cutting the upper sprayed layer in depositional direction. Therefore, excellent wear resistance and the like can be obtained.

Method of manufacturing a piston

A cylinder head for an internal combustion engine includes a metallic cylinder head body, and a valve seat. The cylinder head body is provided with an inlet port, and an outlet port which are opened and closed by an inlet valve, and an outlet valve, respectively. The valve seat is disposed at an end of the inlet port or the outlet port, has a contact surface which is contacted with and separated from the inlet valve or the outlet valve, and is formed of a laminated substance. The laminated substance is formed as flakes by thermal spraying particles in a predetermined depositing direction, and the contact surface is inclined by an angle of from 0 to 60 degrees with respect to the depositing direction. In the cylinder head, the valve seat is strongly bonded to the cylinder head body, exhibits improved frictional characteristics on the contact surface, and has such high thermal conductivity in a depth-wise direction that it can be readily cooled to a low temperature.
