Imidazoline-derived compounds are used in compositions and methods for inhibiting natural gas hydrate agglomerates. The imidazoline-derived compounds are reaction products between a tall oil fatty acid and an amine. The methods include introducing a composition downhole, the composition comprising an imidazoline-derived compound formed by reacting a tall oil fatty acid with an amine; and contacting the composition with a downhole fluid to inhibit formation of hydrate agglomerates, wherein the downhole fluid comprises natural gas or hydrocarbons.

Imidazoline-derived compounds and use as natural gas hydrate inhibitors

Graphene quantum dots are functionalized by covalently bonding a corrosion inhibitor molecule thereto. In a useful method, a corrosion inhibitor compound is blended with a graphene quantum dot-tagged corrosion inhibitor compound, and the blend is applied to a metal surface, such as the interior of a carbon steel pipe. The blend inhibits corrosion arising from contact with produced water generated by hydrocarbon recovery from one or more subterranean reservoirs. The produced water having the blend dispersed therein is irradiated with a source of light having a selected first range of wavelengths, and the luminescent emission of the graphene quantum dot-tagged corrosion inhibitor is measured at a selected second range of wavelengths, thereby providing for real-time measurement of corrosion inhibitor concentration within the pipe.

Compositions and methods for corrosion inhibitor monitoring

Disclosed herein are graphene quantum dot tagged water source treatment compounds or polymers, and methods of making and using. Also described herein are tagged compositions including an industrial water source treatment compound or polymer combined with a graphene quantum dot tagged water source treatment compound or polymer. The tagged materials are tailored to fluoresce at wavelengths with minimized correspondence to the natural or 'background' fluorescence of irradiated materials in industrial water sources, enabling quantification of the concentration of the water source treatment compound or polymer in situ by irradiation and fluorescence measurement of the water source containing the tagged water source treatment compound or polymer. The fluorescence measurement methods are similarly useful to quantify mixtures of tagged and untagged water source treatment compounds or polymers present in an industrial water source.

Fluorescent water treatment compounds and method of use

Disclosed are succinimide-based compounds used in compositions and methods for inhibiting natural gas hydrate agglomerates. The succinimide-based compounds are reaction products of an alkenyl succinic anhydride and an amine or amine alcohol.

Alkenyl succinimides and use as natural gas hydrate inhibitors

Disclosed are compositions including up to 20 wt % of a paraffin inhibiting polymer and one or more non-polymeric glycol ether compounds, wherein the compositions are stable and flow at a temperature between about 0&#xb0; C. and &#x2212;40&#xb0; C., in many cases between about &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. and &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. The glycol ether compounds are non-polymeric, are liquids at 20&#xb0; C. (1 atm) and have boiling points over 100&#xb0; C., in many cases over 200&#xb0; C. The compositions are useful paraffin inhibitor concentrates for use in the petroleum industry wherein the concentrates are stable, pumpable, and pourable at temperatures as low as &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. and as high as 60&#xb0; C.

Temperature-stable paraffin inhibitor compositions

Disclosed are compositions including one or more corrosion inhibitors, one or more solvents and one or more Log P additives. The compositions are useful as corrosion inhibitors for use in the petroleum industry wherein the compositions are stable, pumpable, and pourable at temperatures as low as &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. and as high as 60&#xb0; C.

Temperature-stable corrosion inhibitor compositions and methods of use

Disclosed are compositions including up to 20 wt % of a paraffin inhibiting polymer and a non-polymeric ester compound, wherein the compositions flow at a temperature between about 0&#xb0; C. and &#x2212;40&#xb0; C., or between about &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. and &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. The non-polymeric ester compounds are liquids at 20&#xb0; C. and atmospheric pressure, and have boiling points over 100&#xb0; C., in many cases over 200&#xb0; C. The compositions are useful to inhibit paraffin deposition during petroleum recovery, refining, storing, and transporting under field conditions, wherein the concentrates are pumpable and pourable, do not precipitate, and do not exhibit high pressure buildup inside enclosed containers at temperatures as low as &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. and as high as 60&#xb0; C.

Disclosed are paraffin inhibitors, paraffin suppressant compositions, and methods of making and using them. The paraffin inhibitors comprise polymers of a maleic moiety polymerized with at least two olefins having hydrocarbon chains of a different length from each other. When added to hydrocarbon media such as crude oils to form crude oil compositions, the paraffin inhibitors inhibit the precipitation of paraffin waxes in the crude oil compositions and exhibit reduced precipitation, gelling, and/or crystallization from the hydrocarbon media when the media are subjected to sustained low temperatures.

Paraffin inhibitors, and paraffin suppressant compositions and methods

Disclosed herein are paraffin suppressant compositions, and methods of making and using them. The compositions comprise a paraffin inhibitor, a hydrocarbon-soluble hydrotrope equivalent, and optionally one or more additional paraffin dispersants. When added to hydrocarbon media such as crude oils to form crude oil compositions, the suppressant compositions inhibit the precipitation of paraffin waxes in the crude oil compositions. The suppressant compositions, added to hydrocarbon media such as hydrocarbon solvents or crude oils, exhibit reduced precipitation, gelling, and/or crystallization of paraffin inhibitor from the hydrocarbon media, when the media are subjected to sustained temperatures between 4&#xb0; C. and &#x2212;60&#xb0; C.

Paraffin suppressant compositions and methods

Disclosed are compositions including up to 20 wt % of a paraffin inhibiting polymer, a refined petroleum distillate and one or more low Log P molecules, wherein the compositions are stable and flow at a temperature between about 0&#xb0; C. and &#x2212;40&#xb0; C., in many cases between about &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. and &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. The low Log P molecules are non-polymeric, have a Log P of less than 1, are liquids at 20&#xb0; C. (1 atm), and have boiling points over 60&#xb0; C., in many cases over 100&#xb0; C. The compositions are useful paraffin inhibitor concentrates for use in the petroleum industry wherein the concentrates are stable, pumpable, and pourable at temperatures as low as &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. and as high as 60&#xb0; C.

Disclosed herein are graphene quantum dot tagged paraffin suppressants such as graphene tagged paraffin inhibitors and paraffin dispersants and methods of making and using thereof. The graphene quantum dots are covalently bound to residues of paraffin inhibitors or dispersed with paraffin dispersants to form tagged paraffin suppressants active in inhibiting paraffin crystallization or dispersing crystalized paraffin wax in crude oils and compositions comprising crude oils. The dots can be tailored to fluoresce at wavelengths with minimized correspondence to the natural fluorescence of crude oils, enabling the measurement of the concentration of the paraffin suppressants in crude oils or compositions comprising crude oils. The tagged suppressants are used to trace the dispersion and disposition of the paraffin suppressants in oils and compositions comprising them, for example within crude-oil recovery, production, processing, or conveyance and transportation, by in situ sampling the oil or composition and measuring the fluorescence of the sampled material.
