A high-pressure fuel pump of an internal combustion engine has a fuel injection valve provided on a cylinder. The high-pressure fuel pump is for pumping fuel to the fuel injection valve, and has a pressure chamber, a plunger for pressurizing the fuel in the pressure chamber, a fuel valve provided in the pressure chamber, and an actuator for operating the fuel valve. A control device has means for calculating the drive signal of the actuator so as to realize the variable discharge of the high-pressure fuel pump. The end timing of the drive signal is limited or restricted so that an attraction force of a solenoid coil is not maintained at the bottom dead center of the plunger in case that the required discharge to the fuel pump is less than the total discharge.

Control device of high-pressure fuel pump of internal combustion engine

A control device of a high-pressure fuel pump of an internal combustion engine capable of improving stability in controlling the drive of the high-pressure fuel pump by limiting the end timing of a drive signal of the high-pressure fuel pump and driving an actuator in a control effective range of the high-pressure fuel pump. The control device of the high-pressure fuel pump of the internal combustion engine has a fuel injection valve provided on a cylinder and the high-pressure fuel pump for pumping fuel to the fuel injection valve, wherein the high-pressure fuel pump comprises a pressure chamber, a plunger for pressurizing the fuel in the pressure chamber, a fuel valve provided in the pressure chamber, and the actuator for operating the fuel valve. The control device has means for calculating the drive signal of the actuator so as to realize the variable discharge of the high-pressure fuel pump. The means for calculating the drive signal has means for limiting the end timing of the drive signal of the actuator to a predetermined phase and/or means for limiting the output timing of the drive signal of the actuator to be within a predetermined phase range.

In an engine controller with a feed back control system, an instruction signal for controlling an engine condition adjusting device is determined on the basis of a comparison between an input signal corresponding to a desired engine condition and an actual engine condition signal when the engine controller, the engine condition adjusting device and a sensor for generating the actual engine condition signal operates normally, and is determined on the basis of the input signal while preventing the instruction signal from being determined on the basis of the comparison between the input signal and the actual engine condition signal when an abnormality of at least one of the engine controller, the engine condition adjusting device and the sensor is detected.

The control system controls at least one of vehicle speed, a vehicular distance, driving wheel speed, slip ratio toward a target value, derives a target torque of an engine on the basis of the target value, a fuel injection amount for the engine on the basis of the target torque of the engine, a target air supply amount to the engine on the basis of the fuel injection amount derived by the vehicle condition control means and an actual air supply amount of the engine. The variation of the A/F ratio and the deterioration of driving feeling or exhaust owing to the response delay of air intake against the fuel injection is suppressed, in an engine control apparatus for controlling an intake air flow based on the torque or the fuel injection amount. The apparatus causes the phase of fuel injection to fit to that of air intake. In order to fit the phase of fuel injection to that of air intake, an apparatus for delaying the fuel injection or an apparatus for speeding up the air intake is used.

An engine control apparatus controls an intake air flow based on the engine torque or the fuel injection amount. A variation of the A/F ratio and deterioration of a driving &ldquo;feel&rdquo; owing to the response delay of air intake against the fuel injection is suppressed. The phase of fuel injection is caused to fit that of the air intake phase by delaying the fuel injection or by speeding up the air intake.

There is provided an engine control apparatus with electromagnetically driven intake and exhaust valves which can widen the dynamic range of engine brake torque. The valve open timing of the electromagnetic exhaust valve during fuel cut is made to be variable between the initial stage of expansion stroke and the late stage thereof so as to control the magnitude of engine brake torque.

An electronic engine control system for a lean burn engine includes a unit for detecting an amount Qa of intake air fed into a cylinder of the engine, a unit for detecting an engine speed Ne, a unit for calculating a basic fuel injection pulse width TPbas on the basis of the intake air amount Qa and the engine speed Ne, and a unit for determining control parameters containing any of at least an air-fuel ratio, an ignition timing, a fuel injection timing, a throttle opening and an EGR rate in accordance with an operating state of the engine in optimum. A reference TPref having the same dimension as the basic fuel injection pulse width TPbas and which is a function of an accelerator operating amount determined on the basis of the accelerator operating amount is determined as a load parameter used upon determination of the control parameters of the engine in operation with a lean air-fuel ratio. Because the accelerator opening amount is inputted to calculate the reference .sub.Tpref so that the throttle opening is controlled, the measurement accuracy of the accelerator opening and throttle opening amounts can be ensured, particularly in a vicinity of the completely closed state of the throttle where the increasing rate of intake air to throttle opening exists.

A controller of a direct injection engine is basically provided with a swirl control valve arranged in an air intake port portion, a fuel injection valve and a variable fuel pressure regulator, further provided with means for controlling fuel pressure by the variable fuel pressure regulator, means for detecting operational conditions and means for detecting a combustion state, and still further provided with means for controlling a valve opening of the swirl control valve on the basis of the operational conditions and the combustion state.

An electronic engine control system for a lean burn engine includes a unit for detecting an amount Qa of intake air fed into a cylinder of the engine, a unit for detecting an engine speed Ne, a unit for calculating a basic fuel injection pulse width TPbas on the basis of the intake air amount Qa and the engine speed Ne, and a unit for determining control parameters containing any of at least an air-fuel ratio, an ignition timing, a fuel injection timing, a throttle opening and an EGR rate in accordance with an operating state of the engine in optimum. An engine control apparatus in which it is possible to suppress variation of the A/F ratio due to variation of the fuel pressure and for the A/F ratio to converge in a very short time when continuous variation of the increase and decrease of the fuel pressure based on an operation state is performed in the A/F ratio control of an engine. The engine control apparatus sets a target fuel pressure based on an operation state, detects fuel pressure and controls fuel pressure to the target fuel pressure. An integration component of the feedback coefficient of the A/F ratio is corrected when at least one of the target fuel pressure and the detected fuel pressure is varied. Fuel injection amount is calculated based on the detected amount of intake air, the target A/F ratio and the feedback coefficient of the A/F ratio.

A cylinder fuel injection engine controller for controlling a cylinder fuel injection engine is capable of controlling the cylinder fuel injection engine for operation at a stable idling speed regardless of the variation of engine speed and load on the cylinder fuel injection engine while the cylinder fuel injection engine is cold and stratified combustion is impossible. The cylinder fuel injection engine controller comprises: a basic fuel injection quantity determining means for determining a basic fuel injection quantity (Tp1), a reference fuel injection quantity determining means for determining a reference fuel injection quantity (Tp2) from an engine speed and an accelerator pedal position; and a target fuel injection quantity calculating means for determining a target fuel injection quantity (Tp3) by multiplying the reference fuel injection quantity (Tp2) by a desired A/F ratio and dividing the product of the multiplication by the stoichiometric A/F ratio. The cylinder fuel injection engine controller is characterized by a reference fuel injection quantity adjusting means for adjusting the reference fuel injection quantity (Tp2) for engine speed control and/or load correction during idling operation. Fuel injection quantity (Tp) to be supplied to the engine and intake air quantity (Q) are controlled simultaneously and separately on the basis of the reference fuel injection quantity (Tp2).
