An information processing apparatus includes an information storage to store information indicating a state of the information processing apparatus; an information writing processor to write the information to the information storage; a main power source and an auxiliary power source to supply power to the information writing processor; and a discharge controller to control a discharge speed of the auxiliary power source. When a voltage output of the main power source becomes a reference voltage, the discharge controller switches a power source for the information writing processor from the main power source to the auxiliary power source, and then after completing information writing to the information storage by using the information writing processor and the auxiliary power source, the discharge controller controls the discharge speed of the auxiliary power source to decrease a voltage output of the auxiliary power source to a given voltage within a given time period.

An image forming apparatus includes a laser beam scanning unit for scanning a recording medium in synchronism with a writing clock signal so that a dotted image is formed on the recording medium, a counter for carrying out a count operation in synchronism with the writing clock signal so that one count value or a plurality of count values determining a scanning area is/are obtained, a first controller for activating or inactivating the laser beam scanning unit based on one or the plurality of count values, a dip switch unit for specifying a dotting density, a second controller for controlling the frequency of the writing clock signal and/or a speed of scanning; and a changing unit for changing one or the plurality of count values, which should be obtained by the counter, based on the dotting density specified by the dip switch unit, so that the position of the scanning area with respect to the recording medium is constant even if the frequency of the writing clock signal and/or the scanning speed are changed by the second controller.

Image forming apparatus capable of changing dotting density

A laser beam scanning system includes a laser for emitting a laser beam modulated with image information to be recorded and a deflecting device, such as polygon mirror, for deflecting the laser beam over a predetermined angle repetitively, so that the laser beam is scanned on a scanning surface, thereby an image is formed on the scanning surface. When a plurality of laser beams are used at the same time, the plurality of laser beams are arranged in an array inclined with respect to the scanning direction. In this case, a sync sensor generates a sync signal in response to a laser beam received in the first place. When a polygon mirror is so structured to have a reflecting surface which is defined by a curved surface having a predetermined radius of curvature, a f.theta. lens may be discarded. In this case, when a transparent layer is formed on this curved reflecting surface, no distortion in scanning speed is produced even without using any electrical correction. Besides, it is also preferable to control the intensity of laser beam so as to maintain the image density of a resultant image at constant.

Imaging by laser beam scanning

One or more marks (34), (36) are provided on a non-image area of a platen (23) which supports an original document (16). Electrostatic images of the document (16) and mark (34) are formed on a photoconductive drum (12) and developed to form toner images. The toner image of the original document (16) is transferred to a copy sheet (21) which is fed into contact with the drum (12) by a roller (119) or belt (19). The toner image of the mark (34) is transferred to the roller (119) or belt (19) and the optical density thereof sensed by a photosensor (39). The toner density, transfer charge and other parameters are controlled in accordance with the sensed optical density. An auxiliary sensor (91) may be provided to sense the optical density of the toner image of the mark (34) on the drum (12) prior to transfer for improved parameter control.

Electrophotographic apparatus comprising density sensor means

Three primary color toner images are transferred successively onto a copy sheet from three photoconductive drums. The copy sheet is successively moved into engagement with the drums in register with the toner images by an endless belt. Various transfer charging means are provided to electrostatically adhere the copy sheet to the belt and counteract an adverse accumulation of charge on the copy sheet caused by accumulation of toner substance thereon during the three successive transfer operations.
