At least part of each bridge portion is heated and molten to form a keyhole, and a nonmagnetic element is disposed around the keyhole. Thus, even when the width of the bridge portion in the radial direction is increased, the bridge portion is demagnetized. Therefore, leakage flux in the bridge portion is reduced, and the output power of a motor is increased. Moreover, by increasing the width of the bridge portion in the radial direction, the strength of the bridge portion is increased, and breakage of the bridge portion due to a centrifugal force at high-speed rotation of a rotor is prevented.

Disclosed are a lubricant composition to which is added as buffer particles to a lubricant polyurethane resin particles obtained by reacting and synthesizing long-chain polyol having a number-average molecular weight of not less than 500, a crosslinking agent having three or more active hydrogen groups in one molecule, and polyisocyanate as buffer particles, a speed reduction gear filled with the lubricant composition, and an electric power steering apparatus having the speed reduction gear incorporated therein, wherein noise produced by the speed reduction gear can be made lower than ever before irrespective of the magnitude of backlash in a case where a worm and a worm wheel are combined with each other and without complicating the configuration of the speed reduction gear by the buffer action of the buffer particles added to the lubricant composition, thereby making it possible to reduce noise produced in an automobile due to the electric power steering apparatus at low cost.

A method of making a coated article is provided. The method includes electrostatically depositing powder onto a metallic article to be coated using an electrostatic spray gun while the metallic article is being rotated around its axis such that the powder is deposited around the entire circumference of the metallic article at least in a radially outward peripheral region having projections and depressions and that the powder deposited on top of the projections is larger in thickness than the powder deposited in other parts of the metallic article. Melting of the powder is performed by induction heating the metallic article to make a coating film adhere to the metallic article.

An electric power steering apparatus is provided with a worm which is a driving gear interlocked with an electric motor for assisting steering, and a worm wheel which is a driven gear having an annular teeth body made of synthetic resin meshing with the worm and a metallic core body coupling the annular teeth body and is attached to the steering shaft. Protrusions are provided on a side surface of the annular teeth body in a face width direction at a plurality of circumferential positions from which a distance to a center of rotation is different from each other, and stirred lubricating fats and oils applied around the worm wheel. As a result, the lubricating fats and oils can be moved to between tooth surfaces of a meshing portion between the worm and worm wheel.

After forming a primary powder bed (i.e., powder layer) at a toothed portion of an article, such as a gear or a spline shaft, by electrostatic powder coating process, the powder bed/layer is removed from crests of teeth in the toothed portion by a specified thickness by scraping it off while sucking up the scraped powder. Next, the electrostatic powder coating process is performed again to form a secondary powder bed/layer over the entire surface of the toothed portion. Then, the primary and secondary powder beds/layers are melted or fused by induction heating to thereby form a coating film of a substantially uniform thickness.

In a one-way clutch, an outer retainer includes tapered surfaces formed by chamfering axially opposite side edges of an outermost part at a projection of the outer retainer, thereby facilitating the assembly of the clutch in an outer ring. An annular stopper (22) made of synthetic resin is inserted into a housing (5). The housing (5) contains a rack (4) meshing with a pinion which rotates according to steering operation. A reaction force acts on the stopper (22) so that the inward movement of the stopper (22) into the housing (5) is restrained. At least part of the reaction force acts on an end face (22c) of the stopper (22) when the stopper (22) restrains the rack (4) from moving into one direction.
