An image reproducing apparatus wherein a heat generating member is disposed in the proximity of a roller fixing device at the side of a charge receptor from which a transfer sheet is introduced to the fixing device. The roller fixing device is a heat roller fixer and the heat generating member is a plate-shaped heat generating member disposed at the lower side of conveying path for the transfer sheet.

Fixing device for an image reproducing apparatus

In a method for the formation of images such as an electrophotographic method in which toners are used, when a heat roller is used for fixing toner images, the durability and the heat efficiency of the heat roller is improved reducing the wall thickness of the cylindrical metal of the heat roller, shortening the warming-up time, using a material having a substantial Young's modulus, and by shortening the outer diameter of the cylindrical metal, respectively. With respect to toners specifically used for the above, stains on an image carrier are prevented by making use of a binder that is fused at a heating temperature of the heat-fixing roller and is increased in the elasticity of the toner at the same temperature or higher. Such binders may be obtained by copolymerizing a polyhydric alcohol and/or a polyhydric amine, and a polyhydric carboxylic acid.

Method for the formation of images

A cleaning apparatus for a toner image retaining member of an electrophotographic copying machine includes an elastic cleaning blade for removing residual toner from the surface of the toner image retaining member, the elastic cleaning blade having two opposite ends, one end having a protuberance with a cleaning edge. A holder is arranged along a given axis for supporting the opposite end of the elastic cleaning blade and for disposing the cleaning edge in resilient contact against the surface of the toner image retaining member. The cleaning edge of the elastic cleaning blade is formed by a ridge line of the protuberance which is kept in resilient contact against the surface of the toner image retaining member by the holder. The angle of intersection .phi. at the side of the toner image retaining member prior to contact with the cleaning blade, subtended by the axis of the holder and a tangent line at the contact point of the cleaning edge with the surface of the toner image retaining member satisfies the following relation:
