Electrical connector

A connector includes contacts arranged in a contact-arrangement plane and including a source contact and a signal contact, each of the contacts having a contact portion that comes into contact with a contact of a counter-connector, a ground plate made of metal disposed in parallel with the contact-arrangement plan, an insulator that holds the contacts and the ground plate, and a shell that covers an outer periphery of the insulator and is made of metal, the ground plate being disposed so as to face the contacts through a portion of the insulator with the contact portion of each contact being exposed, and having a cutout formed at an end of the ground plate adjacent to the contact portion of the source contact, and the insulator having a projection that fills the cutout of the ground plate.

A mating connector, that includes a mating ground portion, includes a holding member, a contact, a shell and a ground member. The holding member is formed of an insulating body defining a connection space, the contact has a contact point which is held by the holding member to be positioned in the connection space, the shell covers, at least in part, the holding member in a plane perpendicular to a front-rear direction, and the ground member is electrically connected with the shell and has a base portion positioned between the holding member and the shell. A ground spring extends from the base portion and a ground contact point to be connected to the mating ground portion, and has first, second and third springs. The third spring is inward of the second spring, and supports the ground contact point to project into the connection space.

A connector includes one or more contacts, an insulator that holds the one or more contacts, an outer shell that is made of metal and covers around the insulator except a front face part and a back face part of the insulator in a fitting direction of the connector with a counter connector, and a back shell that is made of metal, covers the back face part of the insulator and has held portions to be held by the insulator, the insulator having back shell holders that hold corresponding held portions of the back shell, thereby holding the back shell.

A connector includes a plurality of signal contacts and a plurality of non-signal contacts arranged on at least one contact array plane, a ground plate disposed on a ground plane parallel to the contact array plane so as to face the plurality of signal contacts and the plurality of non-signal contacts, and an insulator which holds the plurality of signal contacts, the plurality of non-signal contacts and the ground plate, at least one of the non-signal contacts being disposed between each of the signal contacts and other of the signal contacts, the ground plate having at least one opening at a location facing the at least one of the non-signal contacts disposed between each of the signal contacts and other of the signal contacts, none of the signal contacts being disposed on the ground plane.

A connector includes at least one contact, a ground plate formed of a metal plate of a predetermined thickness, an insulator that holds the at least one contact and the ground plate, and a metal shell that covers an outer periphery portion of the insulator, the metal shell having a window section formed facing the ground plate and having a thickness greater than the thickness of the metal plate which forms the ground plate, the ground plate having a shell fixing section formed by folding and overlapping the metal plate and located to contact the window section from inside the metal shell, a periphery of the window section of the metal shell and the shell fixing section of the ground plate being welded to each other inside the window section of the metal shell.

A USB receptacle mateable with a USB plug along a mating direction is disclosed. The USB receptacle comprises a holder member made of insulator, a shell made of conductor, and a detection pin made of conductor which is separated and is different from the shell. The detection pin is made of resiliently-deformable material and is held by the holder member so as not to be in direct contact with the shell. The detection pin includes a first contact portion and a second contact portion. The first contact portion and the second contact portion pinch a part of a plug shell of the USB plug when the USB receptacle is mated with the USB plug. Under a condition where the USB receptacle is not mated with the USB plug, the first contact portion and the second contact portion meet an inequality of '(b&#x2212;a)&#x3c;T', where 'a' is a distance to the first contact portion from a center of the USB receptacle in the perpendicular direction perpendicular to the mating direction, &#x201c;b&#x201d; is a distance from the center to the second contact portion, and &#x201c;T&#x201d; is a thickness of a normal shell of a normal USB plug compliant with the USB standard.

A connector for connecting an FFC to a substrate includes a plurality of signal contacts, a ground contact, and a housing. The signal contacts are arranged to come into contact with signal terminals of the FFC. The ground contact comes into contact with the ground terminal of the FFC. The housing holds the plurality of signal contacts and the ground contact. A first distance from an end of the housing to a contact point of each signal contact with each signal terminal is set to be substantially equal to a second distance from an end of the housing to a contact point of the ground contact with the ground terminal. The first and second distances are measured along a direction in which one of the FFC and the FPC is inserted into or removed from the connector.
