An image display apparatus includes an input range discriminator which discriminates a type of an input digital video signal, on the basis of a setup level and a dynamic range of the digital video signal; a signal processor which corrects the setup level and the dynamic range of the digital video signal, on the basis of a result of the discrimination made by the input range discriminator; and a display device which displays a picture based on the digital video signal corrected by the signal processor.

Setup level and dynamic range adjustment of an image display apparatus

A projector comprises an optical engine which projects an image based on a video signal; a circuit section which controls operation of the optical engine; a power source which supplies electric power to the circuit section; a network interface, through which the circuit section communicates with a remote network terminal device; and a hub which is connected to the network interface and includes a plurality of ports. The network interface communicates with the remote network terminal device through one of the ports of the hub. Further, the power source of the projector supplies electric power to the hub.

An image is scaled by a desired scaling factor by using an upper scaling factor slightly greater than the desired scaling factor and a lower scaling factor slightly less than the desired scaling factor. The upper and lower scaling factors are applied to different parts of each horizontal or vertical line in the image. Both the upper and lower scaling factors are fractions with numerators and denominators less than the numerator and denominator of the desired scaling factor. The lower scaling factor may be obtained by decomposing the desired scaling factor into unit fractions. Regardless of the value of the desired scaling factor, the image can be scaled without the need for a large interpolation coefficient memory, and without resorting to iterated scaling and its attendant large data transfers.

Projection-type liquid crystal display apparatus

A projection-type liquid crystal display device having a light source for emitting a luminous flux; a liquid crystal light valve for modulating the luminous flux emitted by the light source means; a liquid crystal drive circuit for applying the common voltage to the common electrode and the video signal to the source electrode; a projection lens for projecting the luminous flux modulated by the liquid crystal light valve onto a screen; a liquid crystal temperature detector for detecting temperature in the vicinity of the liquid crystal light valve; and a controller. The controller controls the common voltage and/or the source voltage on the basis of values detected by the liquid crystal temperature detector in such a way that fluctuation in the light transmittance of the liquid crystal light valve means is reduced.
