The present invention provides a plain bearing having improved bearing properties, especially anti-seizure property, initial conformability and cavitation resistance. According to the present invention, a sliding layer is provided on a surface of a bearing alloy layer comprising of a copper-based or aluminum-based alloy, thereby the sliding layer is so structured that, to a polyamide-imide resin of a main constituent, a polyamide resin is added and mixed under a high shear force to form a polymer-alloyed resin binder, in which 1 to 75% by mass of a solid lubricant is dispersed. The sliding layer can have high toughness and strength, as well as improved anti-seizure property, initial conformability and cavitation resistance.

A sliding member has a sliding alloy layer, an intermediate layer of Ni or a Ni alloy formed on the sliding alloy layer, and a soft layer of Sn or a Sn alloy formed on the intermediate layer. A recess is formed on the sliding side surface of the sliding alloy layer. The intermediate layer is formed on the inner surface of the recess. The sliding member is subjected to a heat treatment, whereby there are formed intermetallic compounds in the soft layer, which extend protrudently from the intermediate layer.

Sliding member

Disclosed is a sliding member having a bearing alloy layer, an intermediate layer of Ni or a Ni alloy formed on the bearing alloy layer, and an overlay layer of a Sn alloy containing Cu formed on the intermediate layer. There exist Sn&#x2014;Cu compounds in the overlay layer, which protrudently extend from the intermediate layer. The hard Sn&#x2014;Cu compounds contribute to the overlay layer in improving fatigue resistance property. A soft Sn matrix being rich in an outer surface region of the overlay layer is responsible for keeping good conformability to have excellent anti-seizure property.

A lubricant which is non-polluting and substitutable for conventional lubricants and which is excellent in lubrication characteristics, particularly having low frictional characteristics comprises an aqueous solution containing a saccharide in an amount of 0.5&#x2013;30% by mass based on the total amount of the aqueous solution the saccharide comprising mainly a sucrose and a disaccharide caramel in an amount of 0.2&#x2013;20% by mass based on the amount of the sucrose. As the sucrose, granulated sugar or crystal sugar is preferred, and coffee sugar containing previously a disaccharide caramel can also be used. More preferably, the lubricant contains sodium laurate and/or potassium laurate in an amount of 0.001&#x2013;1% by mass. Furthermore, it is desired that the lubricant contains potassium sorbate in an amount of 0.1&#x2013;3% by mass as a preservative and benzotriazole or an alkali metal salt thereof in an amount of 0.1&#x2013;3% by mass as a rust inhibitor.
