Authentication functions are centralized in a security system to offload servers of this functionality, and to provide an end-to-end solution for secure internet transactions. The security system supports authentication functions for authenticating a server by requesting server certificates from a certificate authority, and sending server certificates to clients requesting authentication. The security system also authenticates clients by checking digital signatures, validating the client certificates, which includes checking CA signatures, checking the validity period of the signatures, maintaining a certificate revocation list (CRL), and checking client certificates against the CRL.

Mechanism supporting wired and wireless methods for client and server side authentication

A selection system and method to receive an indication of a security format from a network and to select one of a plurality of security format conversions based on the received indication is described. The indication may be an indication of a wireless security format such as WTLS used by a wireless access device or a wired security format such as SSL used by a wired access device and the security format conversion selected based on the indication may be to another secured format or a plain data format. The indication may include an indication of a port and an indication of a security feature that is supported by the access device.

Selecting a security format conversion for wired and wireless devices

A method and system is provided for accelerating the conversion process between encryption schemes. The system includes a board in a gateway. The board includes a controller to receive security parameters and data encrypted according to a first encryption scheme and control the transmission of the data. The system includes a hardware device coupled to the controller to decrypt the data and encrypt the data according to a second encryption scheme. The data is then transmitted to the controller to be forwarded out of the gateway.
