In an organic EL element, an organic EL layer is interposed between anodes and cathodes formed on a substrate. Each of the cathodes is made of a first conductive film that comes into contact with the organic EL layer and a second conductive film that constitutes a laminated structure together with the first conductive film. The first conductive film contains any one of an alkaline metal and an alkaline earth metal. The second conductive film contains any one of at least one type metal selected from a group consisting of Ru (ruthenium), Rh (rhodium), Jr (iridium), Os (osmium) and Re (rhenium) and its oxide.

In an organic EL element, an organic EL layer is interposed between anodes and cathodes formed on a substrate. The first conductive film contains any one of an alkaline metal and an alkaline earth metal. The second conductive film contains any one of at least one type metal selected from a group consisting of Ru (ruthenium), Rh (rhodium), Ir (iridium), Os (osmium) and Re (rhenium) and its oxide.

The present invention provides an organic EL device including a pair of electrodes consisting of a positive electrode and a negative electrode; a plurality of banks which is disposed between the pair of electrodes and insulates the positive electrode and the negative electrode; and an organic EL light-emitting material in a plurality of gaps formed by bank partitions, wherein if the distance between the bank partitions in the gap at one electrode side is d, the distance between the bank partitions except at the one electrode side is d' and the distance between the bank partitions at the other electrode side to the one electrode side is d&#x2033;, then at least one of the gaps satisfies d&#x3e;d&#x2033;, and the distance between the bank partitions in the gap progressively satisfies d&#x2212;d&#x2032;&#x2267;0 from the one electrode side to the other electrode side. The present invention also provides an efficient method of manufacturing the organic EL device.

An organic EL device employing polymer material includes a structure in which a luminous layer formed of a polymer indicated byis put between a lower electrode and an upper electrode. Where, in the above chemical formula, Ar, Ardenote a allylene group respectively, R, R, R, Rdenote a substituent respectively, and n denotes a copolymerization ratio. Accordingly, the flatness of the luminous layer can be improved and the solubility of the luminous layer constituent material can be enhanced.
