A work machine that compacts a road surface by rotation of a roller, the work machine comprises: a motor that outputs a driving force for rotating the roller; a first battery and a second battery that supply electric power to the motor; and a housing that holds the motor, the first battery, and the second battery. An upper surface of the housing has: a first opening into which the first battery is insertable, and a second opening into which the second battery is insertable, and in a front view of the work machine. The first battery inserted from the first opening and the second battery inserted from the second opening are inclined in different directions with respect to a normal line of the road surface and held by the housing.

The decompression weight () is formed with a rotation restricting groove () that restricts rotation of the decompression shaft () when a force acts in a direction in which the decompression cam () moves on the decompression shaft () from an advanced position to a retracted position when an engine (E) is stopped and that is continuous with the guide groove ().

An engine (E) includes a crankcase body () including a bottom plate () and a tubular portion (), a crankcase cover () covering a case opening portion () of the crankcase body (), a crankshaft (), a cylinder base portion () located inside the crankcase body (), a cylinder block () located outside the crankcase body (), and a camshaft () located inside the crankcase body () and between the bottom plate () and cylinder base portion (). A vertical, multi-link, adjustable-stroke type engine includes a lubricating oil passage provided in a cylinder barrel for supplying lubricating oil to a lower shaft end portion of a crankshaft and at least a lower shaft end portion of an eccentric shaft, which changes an intake stroke and compression stroke of a piston, so as to pre-press the crankshaft and the eccentric shaft in a predetermined direction, or for supplying lubricating oil to the lower shaft end portion of the eccentric shaft so as to pre-press the eccentric shaft in a predetermined direction.
