A movement-distance measuring apparatus is provided with: an antenna, a phase detection circuit, a phase-shift calculation circuit, and a movement-distance calculation circuit. The antenna transmits a radio wave toward a plurality of reflectors arranged at constant intervals along a moving path of a moving object, and receives a reflected wave from the reflectors. The phase detection circuit detects a phase of the reflected wave received by the antenna. The phase-shift calculation circuit calculates a phase shift based on the phase detected by the phase detection circuit. The movement-distance calculation circuit calculates a movement distance of the moving object, based on the phase shift calculated by the phase-shift calculation circuit, and based on the interval of the reflectors.

An encoder including an emitter to emit a waveform to a scene including a structure. A receiver to receive the waveform reflected from the scene and to measure phases of the received waveform for a period of time. A memory to store a signal model relating phase measurements of the received waveform with phase parameters, and to store a state model relating the phase parameters with a state of the encoder. Wherein the signal model includes a motion-induced polynomial phase signal (PPS) component and a sinusoidal frequency modulated (FM) component. Wherein the PPS component is a polynomial function of the phase parameters, and wherein the FM component is a sinusoidal function of the phase parameters. A processor to determine the phase parameters using non-linear mapping of the phase measurements on the signal model and to determine the state of the encoder by submitting the phase parameters into the state model.

Systems and methods for speed estimation of contactless encoder systems

An encoder includes a layered structure including a metal plate, a dielectric layer arranged on the metal plate, and a plurality of metallic components arranged on the dielectric layer to form a pattern of resonant circuits. The encoder includes an emitter to emit a waveform of a resonant frequency to the layered structure and a receiver to measure amplitudes of the waveform reflected from the layered structure. The processor operatively connected to a memory storing data relating positions of the emitter with amplitudes of the reflected waveform determines a position of the emitter from the measurements of the amplitudes based on the data. The encoder includes an output interface to render the position of the emitter.

Systems and methods for an elevator. The elevator includes an elevator car to move along a first direction. A transmitter for transmitting a signal having a waveform. A receiver for receiving the waveform. A processor having memory is configured to represent the received waveform as a hybrid sinusoidal frequency modulated (FM)-polynomial phase signal (PPS) model. The hybrid sinusoidal FM-PPS model having PPS phase parameters representing a speed of the elevator car along a first direction and a sinusoidal FM phase parameter representing a vibration of the elevator car along a second direction. The processor solves the hybrid sinusoidal FM-PPS model to produce the speed of the elevator car or the vibration of the elevator car or both. A controller controls an operation of the elevator using the speed of the elevator car or the vibration of the elevator car, or both, to assist in an operational management of the elevator.
