A glass filler of the present disclosure includes glass having a composition, the composition including iron oxide. For the content in mass % of the iron oxide in the composition, 0.005&#x2264;FeO&#x2264;0.30 and 0.01&#x2264;T-FeO&#x2264;0.80 (T-FeOrepresents total iron oxide calculated as FeO) are satisfied. For the iron oxide in the composition, Fe/(Fe+Fe), which represents the proportion by mass of Feto total iron, is 0.15 or more and 1.00 or less. The glass filler of the present disclosure is a glass filler having a new composition including a coloring component, the glass filler having a high visible transmittance and a controlled color which can be, for example, within a range of colors different from those of conventional glass fillers that have a low visible transmittance.

A glass flake () having improved heat resistance and chemical resistance is formed from a glass base material satisfying, in mass %, 60&#x2266;SiO&#x2266;75, 5&#x3c;AlO&#x2266;15, 3&#x2266;CaO&#x2266;20, 6&#x2266;NaO&#x2266;20 and 9&#x2266;(LiO+NaO+KO)&#x2266;13. When 9&#x2266;(LiO+NaO+KO)&#x2266;13 is satisfied in mass %, the CaO content and the NaO content are preferably set within the ranges of 5&#x2266;CaO&#x2266;20 and 6&#x2266;NaO&#x2266;13, respectively. When 13&#x2266;(LiO+NaO+KO)&#x2266;20 is satisfied in mass %, the CaO content and the Na2O content are preferably set within the ranges of 3&#x2266;CaO&#x2266;15 and 9&#x2266;NaO&#x2266;20, respectively. The working temperature of the glass base material is preferably 1180&#xb0; C.-1300&#xb0; C. The temperature difference AT obtained by taking the devitrification temperature of the glass base material from the working temperature of the glass base material is preferably 0&#xb0; C.-200&#xb0; C. The glass transition temperature of the glass base material is preferably 550&#xb0; C.-700&#xb0; C. The acid resistance index &#x394;W of the glass base material is preferably 0.05-1.5 mass %.

Glass flake and coated glass flake

Disclosed is a glass flake () having improved heat resistance and improved chemical durability, which is composed of a glass base material satisfying, as expressed in mass %, 60&#x2266;SiO&#x2266;70, 5&#x2266;AlO&#x2266;15, 1&#x2266;MgO&#x2266;10, 10&#x2266;CaO&#x2266;25 and 4&#x3c;(LiO+NaO+KO)&#x3c;9. The temperature difference &#x394;T obtained by taking the devitrification temperature of the glass base material from the working temperature thereof is preferably within the range of 0-200&#xb0; C. The glass transition temperature of the glass base material is preferably within the range of 560-750&#xb0; C. It is desirable that the value of &#x394;W, which serves as an index for the acid resistance of the glass base material, is within the range of 0.05-1.2 mass %.

A glass flake of the present invention has a composition that includes, in terms of mass %, 59&#x2266;SiO&#x3c;65, 8&#x2266;AlO&#x2266;15, 47&#x3c;(SiO&#x2014;AlO)&#x2266;57, 1&#x2266;MgO&#x2266;5, 20&#x2266;CaO&#x2266;30, 0&#x3c;(LiO+NaO+KO)&#x3c;2, and 0&#x2266;TiO&#x2266;5 and that is substantially free from BO, F, ZnO, BaO, SrO, and ZrO.

Glass flake

The glass flake of the present invention has a composition that includes, in terms of mass %, 60&#x3c;SiO&#x2266;65, 8&#x2266;AlO&#x2266;15, 47&#x2266;(SiO&#x2014;AlO)&#x2266;57, 1&#x2266;MgO&#x2266;5, 18&#x2266;CaO&#x2266;30, 0&#x3c;LiO&#x2266;4, 0&#x3c;(LiO+NaO+KO)&#x2266;4, and 0&#x2266;TiO&#x2266;5, and that is substantially free from BO, F, ZnO, BaO, SrO, and ZrO.

Disclosed is a glass composition which can be suitably used as a glass filler to be blended into a polycarbonate resin. This glass composition contains, in mass %, 50&#x2266;SiO&#x2266;60, 8&#x2266;AlO&#x2266;15, 0&#x2266;MgO&#x2266;10, 10&#x2266;CaO&#x2266;30, 0&#x2266;LiO+NaO+KO&#x3c;2, and 5&#x3c;TiO&#x2266;10, and does not substantially contain BO, F, ZnO, SrO, BaO and ZrO.

Glass compositions

Disclosed is a glass composition having a stable quality, which can be easily obtained. This glass composition can be used as a glass filler to be blended into a polycarbonate resin, and enables to reduce the load imposed on a glass manufacturing apparatus. Specifically, this glass composition contains, in mass %, 50&#x2266;SiO&#x2266;60, 8&#x2266;AlO&#x2266;15, 0&#x2266;MgO&#x2266;10, 5&#x2266;CaO&#x3c;21, 0&#x3c;SrO+BaO&#x2266;25, 10&#x3c;MgO+SrO+BaO&#x2266;30, 0&#x2266;LiO+NaO+KO&#x3c;2, 2&#x3c;TiO&#x2266;10 and 0&#x2266;ZrO&#x3c;2 and does not substantially contain BO, F, and ZnO.

Glass composition

The present invention provides a glass flake having sufficiently high visible-light absorptivity. The glass flake of the present invention includes a glass composition that contains a transition metal oxide such as an iron oxide and that allows the glass flake to have a visible-light transmittance of 85% or lower measured with an A light source when the glass flake has a thickness of 15 &#x3bc;m. In this glass composition, it is preferable that the content of FeO(T&#x2212;FeO) in terms of the total iron satisfies the following formula, expressed in mass %: 10&#x3c;T&#x2212;FeO&#x2266;50.

Glass flake and method of manufacrturing the same

The present invention provides a glass flake that is substantially free of boron trioxide (BO), barium oxide (BaO), zinc oxide (ZnO), and fluorine (F) and has sufficient heat resistance and good formability for glass flake. The glass flake of the present invention includes a glass composition that contains the following components, expressed in mol %; 50&#x2266;SiO&#x2266;65; 4&#x2266;AlO&#x3c;12; 5&#x2266;SrO&#x2266;25; 10&#x3c;(MgO+SrO)&#x2266;30; 20&#x2266;(MgO+CaO+SrO)&#x2266;45; and 0&#x3c;(LiO+NaO+KO)&#x3c;2; wherein the glass composition is substantially free of BO, BaO, ZnO, and F. This glass flake is useful for resin compositions, paints, cosmetics, ink compositions, and the like.

A glass composition having excellent reinforcing capability and excellent solar control performance includes not smaller than 65 wt. % and smaller than 74 wt. % SiO, 0-5 wt. % BO, 0.1-2.5 wt. % AlO, not smaller than 0 wt. % and smaller than 2 wt. % MgO, 5-15 wt. % CaO, 0-10 wt. % SrO, 0-10 wt. % BaO wherein a total amount of MgO, CaO, SrO and BaO is greater than 10 wt. % and not greater than 15 wt. %, 0-5 wt. % LiO, 10-18 wt. % NaO, 0-5 wt. % KO wherein a total amount of LiO, NaO, and KO is 10-20 wt. % and 0-0.40 TiO.
