A rotary electric machine includes a rotor for rotation around a rotational axis, a stator core that has a cylindrical shape and includes a slot therein, a cooling unit having a coolant passage, and a casing that accommodates the rotor and the stator core. A stator coil is inserted in the slot of the stator core and has a coil end protruded from a side face of the stator core. An electric part is mounted on the cooling unit and controls a current of the stator core. The rotor is rotatably supported inside of the stator core. The cooling unit cools both the stator core and the electric part. The cooling portion is accommodated in spacing defined by the side face of the stator core and an outer circumference wall of the coil end.

Liquid-cooled rotary electric machine integrated with an inverter

An inverter device for changing direct current to alternating current for supplying to an electric motor which may be employed in an electric automobile. This inverter device includes a plurality of switching units, a cooling support member, capacitors, and pairs of first and second conductive plates. Each of the switching units has a box-like casing mounted on the cooling support member, and includes a positive switching element, a negative switching element connected in series, and positive and negative terminals. The positive and negative terminals are exposed on the upper wall of the casing. Each of the capacitors is arranged over an upper wall of the casing of a corresponding one of the switching units, and has positive and negative charge/discharge terminals. The first conductive plate of each pair connects the positive terminal of one of the switching units with the positive charge/discharge terminal of a corresponding one of the capacitors, while the second conductive plate of each pair connects the negative terminal of one of the switching units with the negative charge/discharge terminal of a corresponding one of the capacitors.

The present invention supplies electric power from a battery to a starter and other specific electrical loads which are driven together with the starter with reduced power requirements on the battery. A driving apparatus for controlling an electric load is provided with a battery (1) for supplying the electric power to a starter motor (3) and an electric heater (20) which is attached to a catalyst for cleaning up exhaust gases from the engine. The terminal voltage of the battery (1) during starter motor (3) operation is detected, and the rate of on-off operation to supply the current to the electric heater (20) is controlled by means of a heater controller (5) in accordance with the detected terminal voltage. This conduction timing control is effected by a control circuit (40), being started a first specific time after the start of operation of the starter motor (3) and being ended a second specific time after the end of operation of the starter motor (3).

A power source unit for an automotive vehicle comprises an alternator, a rectification unit for converting an alternating current output of the alternator to a direct current, and outputting same through first and second output sections, a first power accumulation unit connected in parallel with a first load, for receiving a power supply through the first output section, a second power accumulation unit connected in parallel with a second load, for receiving a power supply through the second output section, an alternator output control unit for adjusting an output of the alternator depending upon a terminal voltage of the first power accumulating unit, to maintain the terminal voltage of the first power accumulating unit at a predetermined level, and a voltage control unit responsive to a drop in a terminal voltage of the second power accumulation unit to predetermined level, to permit a power supply to the second power accumulation unit through the rectification unit to thus maintain the terminal voltage of the second power accumulation unit at a predetermined level.

A high power supply apparatus employs a high-power load such as a deicing means for deicing a windshield of the automobile. The high-power load is connected to a converter which connects the output voltage of the alternator to a predetermined voltage. During the operation of the high-power load, the alternator is disconnected from the battery through a switch, and at the same time, the rotating speed of the alternator is increased by the idle speed controller. Since the high-converter means converts the output voltage of the alternator when the rotating speed of the alternator is increased, a predetermined electric power of the alternator is supplied to the high-power load.

High power supply for motor vehicle

A battery voltage regulating system for an automotive vehicle, wherein a first and a second comparators for sensing a battery voltage and a delay circuit connected to the comparators and controlling a power transistor connected in series with a field coil of an alternator with a certain delay time. The delay circuit includes a capacitor and a charge-discharge current changing circuit so that when the battery voltage exceeds a reference voltage of the second comparator, which is higher than that of the first comparator, a charge on the capacitor is discharged with a larger discharging current than the normal discharging current, to thereby shorten the delay time.

An apparatus for controlling electric generation for vehicles for use in an electric generating apparatus for a vehicle having a battery comprising a generator and an electric generation display device comprises: a first comparator circuit for comparing a detection value of the battery voltage with a first reference control voltage so as to charge the battery appropriately; an electric generation display control circuit for driving the electric generation display device in response to an output signal of a second comparator circuit for comparing a detection value of an electric generation voltage of the generator with a second reference control voltage; a third comparator circuit for comparing the detection value of the electric generation voltage of the generator with a third reference control voltage which is higher than the second reference control voltage; and means for driving an exciter circuit of the generator which receives the output signals of the first and third comparator circuits and operates to drive the exciter circuit only in at least one of the cases where the detection value of the battery voltage is lower than the first reference control voltage and where the detection value of the electric generation voltage of the generator is lower than the third reference control voltage, respectively. The use of this electric generation control apparatus for vehicles makes it possible to prevent the electric generation display device from malfunctioning to display a state of no electric generation in spite of a continuing electric generating operation of the generator.

Apparatus for controlling electric generation for vehicles

In a roadway vehicle having a storage battery and an engine-driven alternator, the battery voltage is controlled by a voltage regulator which has a first voltage detector for detecting when the battery voltage reduces below a higher reference level at which the battery voltage is normally controlled, and a second voltage detector for detecting when the battery voltage reduces below a lower reference level. A third voltage detector detects when the alternator voltage rises above a predetermined level. A logic gate circuit responds to outputs from the second and third voltage detectors by generating a warning signal. A semiconductor switching element is coupled in series with the field coil of the alternator to supply thereto the alternator voltage in response to a switching control which is generated in response to an output signal from the first voltage detector to cause the switching element to operate the alternator in a high output state and in response to the logic gate circuit to operate the alternator in a low output state.

Vehicle mounted voltage regulator

In a battery charge indicating system, there are provided detecting means of an npn-transistor for detecting a closed condition of an ignition switch, and switching means of a pnp-transistor for supplying a base current to a driving transistor in response to an output of the detecting means, so that the driving transistor is made conductive when the ignition switch is closed and a generator is not generating its output. The emitter of the pnp-transistor is connected to a battery not through a current supply terminal for a voltage regulator, whereby even when the current supply terminal is accidentally disconnected from the regulator, the driving transistor is made conductive so that an indicating lamp is activated to indicate that the generator is not in the operation condition.
