Disclosed in a cement composition comprising an unsaturated carboxylic acid polymer and an alkaline earth metal aluminofluorosilicate glass, wherein the alkaline earth metal aluminofluorosilicate glass comprises (a) 50 to 95% by weight of coarse particles having a spherical shape and an F/Si ratio of at least 0.1 but lower than 0.6 and having a particle size larger than 3 .mu.m but not larger than 50 .mu.m and (b) 5 to 50% by weight of fine particles having an F/Si ratio of 0.6 to 5 and a particle size of up to 3 .mu.m. This cement composition gives a cured body having a good surface gloss and a high strength, and this cement composition has a good flowability and a good workability. Accordingly, the cement composition is valuable as a dental cement composition.

Disclosed is an adhesive composition comprising (a) 100 parts by weight of a monomer mixture comprising a vinyl monomer having an acidic group in the molecule and a vinyl monomer copolymerizable with said vinyl monomer, (b) 10 to 500 parts by weight of a filler, (c) 0.01 to 10 parts by weight of a polymerization initiator and (d) 0.01 to 10 parts by weight of ascorbic acid or a derivative thereof. This adhesive composition has a high bonding force and an excellent durability even in a severe environment, for example, in the environment in the oral cavity. Accordingly, this adhesive composition is especially valuable used as a dental adhesive.

A curable composition comprising an unsaturated polyether having terminal alkenyl groups, a linear or branched siloxane-substituted polyether having terminal polyorganosiloxane residues and at least two Si-H groups in the molecule and a catalyst having platinum as the main component has an excellent deep portion curing property and provides a cured body having a good hydrophilic property and a good dimensional reproducibility. This curable composition is especially valuable as a dental impression material.

Disclosed is an amorphous, spherical inorganic compound having a particle size of 0.1 to 1.0 .mu.m, which comprises as main constituents (1) an oxide of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of metals of the Groups I, II, III and IV of the Periodic Table, said metal oxide being capable of combining with silicon dioxide, and (2) silica. This amorphous, spherical inorganic compound is prepared by a process comprising adding a mixed solution containing a hydrolyzable organic silicon compound and a hydrolyzable organic compound of at least one metal (M) selected from the group consisting of metals of the Groups I, II, III and IV of the Periodic Table to an alkaline solvent capable of dissolving said organic silicon compound and said organic metal compound therein but substantially incapable of dissolving a reaction product of both the organic silicon compound and the organic metal compound therein, effecting the hydrolysis to precipitate the reaction product and, if necessary, calcining the reaction product.

Amorphous, spherical inorganic compound and process for preparation

Disclosed is an acrylate compound represented by the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 stands for a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 stands for an alkylene group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, R.sub.3 stands for a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms when n is 1, and n is 1 or 2. A composition comprising this acrylate compound as one component has an excellent adhesiveness.

A crystalline metal oxide in the form of a solid solution comprising an oxide of a metal of Group II of the periodic table, titanium oxide and silicon dioxide as main components and having main peaks at about 26.7.degree. and about 20.9.degree. in its Cu-K.alpha. X-ray diffraction pattern (2.theta.) and a specific refractive index. The crystalline metal oxide is produced, for example, by dissolving a compound of a metal of Group II of the periodic table, a hydrolyzable organic silicon compound and a hydrolyzable titanium compound in an organic solvent, hydrolyzing said starting compounds in said solution or after said solution is added to a separately prepared solvent incapable of dissolving the reaction product, thereby to form a sol- or gel-like product, and thereafter calcining the sol- or gel-like product at a temperature and for a period of time sufficient to crystallize said product.

Disclosed is an adhesive coating material for a hard tissue, which comprises (1) a polymer having an acid value of 30 to 700 and including in recurring units a hydrophobic group and two carboxyl (--COOH) groups or one carboxylic anhydride ##STR1## group bonded to the polymer, said carboxyl groups or carboxylic anhydride group being bonded to adjacent carbon atoms, and (2) a polymerizable vinyl compound or a mixture of said polymerizable vinyl compound and an organic titanate compound.
