A system and method for operating a depth sensor. A configuration operation can be performed by storing a first sequence of operation steps which define a first depth sensing mode of operation, and a second sequence of operation steps which define a second depth sensing mode of operation, in the memory. In response to a first request for depth measurements according to the first depth sensing mode of operation, the depth sensor can be operated in the first mode of operation by causing it to execute the first sequence of operation steps. In response to a second request for depth measurements according to the second depth sensing mode of operation, and without performing an additional configuration operation, the depth sensor can be operated in the second mode of operation by causing it to execute the second sequence of operation steps.

Depth sensing techniques for virtual, augmented, and mixed reality systems

Techniques are disclosed for operating a time-of-flight (TOF) sensor. The TOF may be operated in a low power mode by repeatedly performing a low power mode sequence, which may include performing a depth frame by emitting light pulses, detecting reflected light pulses, and computing a depth map based on the detected reflected light pulses. Performing the low power mode sequence may also include performing an amplitude frame at least one time by emitting a light pulse, detecting a reflected light pulse, and computing an amplitude map based on the detected reflected light pulse. In response to determining that an activation condition is satisfied, the TOF may be switched to operate in a high accuracy mode by repeatedly performing a high accuracy mode sequence, which may include performing the depth frame multiple times.

Power-efficient hand tracking with time-of-flight sensor

A method of using a first device to locate a second device is disclosed. The first device, while in a first mode, transmits a first signal and receives a second signal comprising a reflection of the first signal by the second device. The first device determines, based on the received second signal, a position of the second device relative to the first device. The first device transitions to a second mode, and while in the second mode, receives a third signal from the second device. The first device determines, based on the third signal, an orientation of the second device relative to the first device. The first device comprises one or more receiving antennas, and the second device comprises one or more transmitting antennas. The third signal corresponds to a transmitting antenna of the second device.

System and method for tracking a wearable device

An augmented reality device has a radar system that generates radar maps of locations of real world objects. An inertial measurement unit detects measurement values such as acceleration, gravitational force and inclination ranges. The values from the measurement unit drift over time. The radar maps are processed to determine fingerprints and the fingerprints are combined with the values from the measurement unit to store a pose estimate. Pose estimates at different times are compared to determine drift of the measurement unit. A measurement unit filter is adjusted to correct for the drift.

A method for adjusting transmitter output power (P) comprises sensing, by a proximity sensor communicatively coupled to a transmitting device, whether an object is proximate to the transmitting device. The method further comprises analyzing an image from a camera to determine whether the transmitting device is proximate to a portion of a human body, when the proximity sensor senses the object proximate to the transmitting device. Further, the method comprises adjusting the Pof an antenna operatively coupled to the transmitting device to be less than or equal to a SAR threshold output power (P), when it is determined that the transmitting device is proximate to the portion of the human body or when it cannot be determined whether the transmitting device is proximate to a portion of a human body.

Determining proximity of transmitter antennas of portable devices to a human body for limiting transmitter output power to meet specific absorption rate (SAR) requirements

A system and method for operating a sensor which has at least two modes of operation. The sensor may be provided with one or more common operation steps to be used in both a first mode of operation and a second mode of operation. The sensor may also be provided with one or more dummy operation steps to be used in the second mode of operation but not the first mode of operation. The dummy operation steps can convert the first mode of operation to the second mode of operation when used with the one or more common operation steps.

A system includes a computing device operatively coupled to one or more user interface components, and a thermal cooling system for cooling the computing device. The system further includes a proximity sensor positioned adjacent a thermal vent and configured to set a proximity flag in response to detecting an object in proximity to the thermal vent. The system further includes an orientation sensor coupled to the computing device and configured to set an orientation flag in response to detecting an orientation of the computing device being such that the thermal vent is facing downward. The system further includes a processor communicatively coupled to the proximity sensor, the orientation sensor, and the one or more user interface components. The processor is configured to provide an alert for output through the one or more user interface components in response to having the proximity flag set or the orientation flag set.

Method and system for integration of electronic sensors with thermal cooling system

A system and method for operating a sensor which has at least two modes of operation. The sensor may be provided with a sequence of common operation steps which are included in both a first sequence of operation steps which define a first mode of operation and a second sequence of operation steps which define a second mode of operation. The sensor may also be provided with one or more dummy operation steps which relate to the difference between the first mode of operation and the second mode of operation. The sensor can be operated in the first mode of operation by causing it to execute at least the common operation steps and it can be operated in the second mode of operation by causing it to execute the common operation steps and at least one dummy operation step.

A method and system performs antenna tuning using detected changes in antenna self-capacitance in a wireless communication device. A modem detects changes in antenna self-capacitance by utilizing multiple antenna elements. The modem determines a current antenna loading condition using the detected changes in antenna self-capacitance. The modem determines appropriate tuning states for each antenna matching and tuning circuit (AMTC) associated with a respective antenna element. In order to determine the appropriate tuning states, the modem utilizes pre-established antenna self-capacitance information which is mapped to antenna tuning states. The antenna tuning states which are respectively mapped to pre-established antenna self-capacitance are empirically pre-determined by correlating antenna self-capacitance changes to antenna impedance changes. The modem is thus able to change the tuning states of multiple tunable matching circuits and perform antenna tuning using (a) detected real-time changes in antenna self-capacitance and (b) pre-established mappings of antenna self-capacitance and antenna tuning states.
