A thin film transistor (TFT) substrate that is capable of providing a wide viewing angle and high contrast ratio without a decrease is aperture ratio is presented. The TFT substrate may be, for example, used with a patterned vertical alignment (PVA) mode LCD. The TFT substrate includes gate lines and data lines extending in non-parallel directions and a pixel electrode formed in a pixel region. The pixel region has two transmission regions separated from each other by a reflection region, and at least one of the gate lines is formed in the reflection region. A storage capacitor may also be formed in the reflection region. This configuration avoids the use of a bridge region between the two transmission regions that is responsible for aperture ratio decrease in the conventional configuration.

A method and apparatus for driving the data in a liquid crystal display (LCD) panel are presented. The method and apparatus prevent or reduce defects at the boundary between pixel blocks when the pixel blocks are sequentially driven on a block-by-block basis. The method includes applying data signals to a first data block, precharging a second data block that is adjacent to the first data block to a predetermined precharge voltage, and applying data signals to the second data block. The precharging prevents a large voltage difference at the boundary, thereby reducing defects.

A level shifter includes: a voltage dividing unit receiving a first voltage and an input voltage, and generating a middle voltage between the first voltage and the input voltage; first and second voltage compensating units connected to the voltage dividing unit and connected between the first voltage and a second voltage, for compensating a voltage variation of the voltage dividing unit; and an output unit receiving an output from the voltage dividing unit and generating an output voltage.
