Photoactive materials comprising organic-inorganic hybrid halide perovskite compounds are provided. Photovoltaic cells and light-emitting devices incorporating the photoactive materials into their light-absorbing and light-emitting layers, respectively, are also provided. The halide perovskites have an amAMXperovskite crystal structure, wherein am is an alkyl diamine cation, an aromatic diamine cation, an aromatic azole cation, a cyclic alkyl diamine cation or a hydrazinediium cation; A is a monovalent alkylammonium cation or an alkali metal cation; X is a halide ion or a combination of halide ions; and M is an octahedrally coordinated bivalent metal atom.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite compounds

Two-dimensional halide perovskites are provided. The perovskites have two-dimensional Dion-Jacobson phases and are composed of a plurality of inorganic perovskite layers separated by 3-(aminomethyl)piperidinium (3AMP) and/or 4-(aminomethyl)piperidinium (4AMP) spacer cations. The halide perovskites may have a single perovskitizer cation or mixed perovskitizer cations. Also provided are radiation-absorbing materials comprising the perovskites and photovoltaic cells comprising the radiation-absorbing materials as photoactive materials.

Two-dimensional perovskites for stable and efficient photovoltaic cells

A thin film for an optoelectronic device includes a layered 2D perovskite material. The thin film including the layered 2D perovskite material forms a substantially or nearly single-crystalline highly uniform thin film with strongly preferential out-of-plane alignment of the inorganic perovskite layers. This single-crystalline, highly uniform, and highly aligned thin film of the layered 2D perovskite material may thereby facilitate efficient charge transport in an optoelectronic device.

High-efficiency and durable optoelectronic devices using layered 2D perovskites

Highly phase-pure, two-dimensional, multilayered organic-inorganic hybrid, halide perovskites are provided. Also provided are optoelectronic devices that incorporate the halide perovskites as photoactive materials.

Phase-pure, two-dimensional, multilayered perovskites for optoelectronic applications

Materials comprising an A/M/X compound are provided. An A/M/X compound is a compound comprising one or more A moieties, one or more M atoms and one or more X atoms, where the A moieties are selected from organic cations and elements from Group 1 of the periodic table, the M atoms are selected from elements from Group 14 of the periodic table, and the X atoms are selected from elements from Group 17 of the periodic table. The materials include two-phase materials.

Photoluminescent compounds

Solar cells are provided which comprise an electron transporting layer and a light sensitizing layer of perovskite disposed over the surface of the electron transporting layer. The perovskite may have a formula selected from the group consisting of AMX, ZMXor YMX, wherein A is an alkali metal, M is a metal or a metalloid, X is a halide, Z is selected from the group consisting of a primary ammonium, an iminium, a secondary ammonium, a tertiary ammonium, and a quaternary ammonium, and Y has formula M(L), wherein Mis a transition metal in the 2+ oxidation state L is an N&#x2014;N neutral chelating ligand. Methods of making the solar cells are also provided, including methods based on electrospray deposition.

Solar cells with perovskite-based light sensitization layers

Materials comprising an A/M/X compound are provided. An A/M/X compound is a compound comprising one or more A moieties, one or more M atoms and one or more X atoms, where the A moieties are selected from organic cations and elements from Group 1 of the periodic table, the M atoms are selected from elements from Group 14 of the periodic table, and the X atoms are selected from elements from Group 17 of the periodic table. The materials include two-phase materials in which the A/M/X compound provides a first phase and a metal oxide or metal halide compound provides a second phase.
