A wireless intraoral dental x-ray imaging sensor and method of use. The sensor optionally has a rechargeable battery located away from the edge of a PCB/ceramic substrate to enable encapsulation. The sensor has a compact microcontroller unit with several blocks including a radiolink, processing capacity, and a low power management system. Bit truncation and image compression take place on a readout substrate and/or on the MCU. External memory blocks allow for at least partial image storage for safety and as a backup.

Wireless intraoral x-ray imaging sensor

Disclosed is a linear array ultra-fast scanning x-ray imaging device. The linear array x-ray imaging device is single photon sensitive, operating in frame output mode and including a pixel array Application Specific Integrated Circuit including the readout pixel array. The ASIC includes digital control logic and sufficient memory to accumulate digital output frames in various modes of operation prior to output from the ASIC, permitting advanced imaging functionalities directly on the ASIC, while maintaining a dynamic range of 16 bits and single photon sensitivity. The effective or secondary frames output from the pixel array ASIC can be tagged with user provided external triggers synchronizing the effective frames to the x-ray beam energy and/or to the movement of the x-ray source or imaged object. This enables dual energy imaging and ultra-fast scanning, without complex and costly conventional photon counting x-ray imaging sensors. The system architecture is simpler and higher performance.

Wireless intraoral x-ray imaging sensor and method of imaging

Disclosed is an intraoral dental x-ray imaging sensor holder for Wireless IntraOral x-ray imaging Sensors ('WIOS'). The holder secures in place the WIOS from the hump on the backside of the WIOS corresponding to the battery. The holder with the WIOS attached can be painlessly and comfortably positioned inside the dental arch, since there are no brackets holding the WIOS from its edges, but instead from the battery hump. Additionally, the WIOS can be secured on the holder in reverse (rotated by 180 degrees) thus adding flexibility and versatility during intraoral x-ray imaging.

Each pixel readout circuit has circuitry for processing an input analog signal and also has one or more buffers for temporarily storing values corresponding to the signal of at least two individual incoming radiation events. The readout substrate includes a digital controller having digital processing units for carrying out off-pixel digital signal processing and data/rate reduction prior to readout.

The imaging device communicates with a processor that generates a frames memory from which an image reconstruction mechanism composes the final images.
