Systems and methods are disclosed for triggering a long range extension mode of operation for a wireless device in a cellular communications network. In one preferred embodiment, the wireless device is a Machine Type Communication (MTC) device. In one embodiment, a node in the cellular communications network determines that the wireless device is to operate in the long range extension mode if there is difficulty in establishing communication between the wireless device and the cellular communications network. If the wireless device is to operate in the long range extension mode, the node activates one or more long range extension mechanisms with respect to the wireless device such that the wireless device operates in the long range extension mode. In this manner, the long range extension mode is selectively triggered for the wireless device.

In one aspect, a method of wireless communication includes monitoring, by a user equipment (UE), a first component carrier (CC) of a plurality of CCs for a first channel, determining, by the UE during monitoring, one or more channel measurements for a set of candidate CCs of the plurality of CCs, determining, by the UE based on a determination at the UE, whether to include carrier selection data in an uplink transmission, the carrier selection data based on one or more channel measurements, and transmitting, by the UE, the carrier selection data in the uplink transmission. A user equipment (UE) may be provisioned with multiple scheduling configurations and/or configured grants (CGs). Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for transmitting an indication from the UE to the base station indicating that the UE has no data to be transmitted to the BS during the allocated transmission time interval in order to prevent base station from allocating resources for transmission.

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a base station may determine a result associated with an initial set of transmissions of a periodic transmission cycle, and switch a search space configuration set to be used for one or more slots of the periodic transmission cycle based at least in part on the result, the search space configuration set being switched to a candidate search space configuration set. In some aspects, a user equipment may determine that a search space configuration set to be used for a slot of a periodic transmission cycle is to be switched based at least in part on a result associated with an initial set of transmissions of the periodic transmission cycle; and switch the search space configuration, the search space configuration set being switched to a candidate search space configuration set. Dynamic switching of search space configurations under user equipment capability

Apparatuses and methods for wireless communication are provided. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) receives a DCI from a base station, the DCI including an update to a periodically-occurring scheduling, where an absolute time for the update to take effect is specified in an RRC configuration of the DCI. The UE applies the update to the periodically-occurring scheduling for communications of the UE beginning at and following the absolute time. In another aspect, the UE receives at least one downlink communication that updates a plurality of SPS or CG parameters. The UE determines an action time for the update to take effect for each parameter, where the action time is a function of a type of each parameter. The UE applies the update to each parameter for communications of the UE beginning at and following a respective action time.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback retransmission. An example method of wireless communication by a user equipment generally includes receiving signaling indicating to reschedule HARQ feedback for transmission; determining the HARQ feedback based at least in part on one or more fields of the signaling; and transmitting the HARQ feedback based on the determination.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. For example, a method for wireless communications at a user equipment (UE), may include receiving a configuration for reporting feedback associated with beam blocking. The UE may perform a decoding process on one or more downlink transmissions via a set of multiple beams. The UE may determine whether a failure of the decoding process is a result of one or more of the plurality of beams being at least partially blocked during the one or more downlink transmissions according to the configuration. The UE may also transmit a negative acknowledgement (NACK) and link adaptation information, where the NACK acknowledgement is based on the failure of the decoding process and the link adaptation information is based on determining whether the one or more of the set of multiple beams are at least partially blocked.

Systems and methods are disclosed for adjusting Radio Link Monitoring (RLM), Radio Link Failure (RLF) detection, RLF recovery, and/or connection establishment failure detection for wireless devices () in a cellular communications network () depending on mode of operation. In one embodiment, a node () in the cellular communications network () determines whether a wireless device () (e.g., a Machine Type Communication (MTC) device) is to operate in a long range extension mode of operation or a normal mode of operation. The node () then applies different values for at least one parameter depending on whether the wireless device () is to operate in the long range extension mode or the normal mode. The at least one parameter includes one or more RLM parameters, one or more RLF detection parameters, and/or one or more RLF recovery parameters. In doing so, signaling overhead and energy consumption within the wireless device () when operating in the long range extension mode is substantially reduced.

Method for modifying parameter values for long range extension and corresponding node

Aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE). The method generally includes determining a failure to receive and decode at least one scheduled downlink (DL) transmission from a network entity is based, at least in part, on the UE being out of coverage and taking one or more actions, based, at least in part, on one or more conditions. The one or more actions include at least one of: performing an autonomous handover (HO) or transmitting a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) with beam sweeping across multiple slots.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for reporting content processing times to a base station to allow the base station to efficiently schedule bi-directional communications one or more UEs. A content processing time may correspond to the time taken by a UE to process one or more downlink signals received in one or more downlink transmissions. In some examples, the UE may report a content processing time for each downlink transmission. In some examples, the UE may report one or more content processing times for multiple downlink transmissions. The base station may use the content processing times to configure an appropriate gap between downlink and uplink transmissions such that the UE may have sufficient time to process downlink signals before transmitting one or more uplink transmissions in response to the one or more downlink transmissions.
