A tablet computer is provided, which includes a sensor section operable to detect positional input by a human operator and output a positional input signal; a display, laid over the sensor section, operable to receive and display a video signal; and a processor, coupled to a memory storing programs for running an operating system (OS) and executing software loaded to the memory, the processor being operable to receive and process the positional input signal from the sensor section and to output a video signal of the OS and the software to the display. The tablet computer further includes a sensor signal filter capable of selectively communicating the positional input signal from the sensor section to the processor, to a separate external processor, or to neither the processor nor the separate external processor; and a display switch capable of coupling the display to the processor or to the separate external processor.

Pen/touch tablet computer having multiple operation modes and method for switching operation modes

A host system includes a device driver with application-specific settings for a hosted application. Input data is generated by one or more tablet devices at a client computer system. A host-side data transfer application receives the input data and forwards it to the host-side driver, which sends the input data to the hosted application. The tablet data sent to the hosted application is configured according to application-specific settings of the host-side driver, which may support multiple application programming interfaces. A dedicated driver-to-driver connection may also be used to transmit data between client-side and host-side drivers. In another aspect, a host sends an identifier of a hosted application currently in use to a client-side driver, which uses that identifier to look up and apply application-specific settings to tablet data sent to the hosted application. This can eliminate the need for a host-side driver while still allowing application-specific settings for hosted applications.

Application-specific settings for hosted applications using client-side and host-side tablet device drivers

A method includes obtaining sensor coordinates corresponding to positions on a sensor pointed to by an electronic pen, and values determined based signals received from the electronic pen; mapping, using a first mapping method, a first set of the sensor coordinates to first display screen coordinates; determining that a first one of the values is greater than or equal to a first threshold value; determining that a second one of the values is less than or equal to a second threshold value, after determining that the first one of the values is greater than or equal to the first threshold value; and in response to determining that the second one of the values is less than or equal to the second threshold value, mapping, using a second mapping method, a second set of the sensor coordinates to a second display screen coordinates.

Pressure activated accurate pointing

A method includes obtaining sensor coordinates and pressure values corresponding to the sensor coordinates; mapping, using a first mapping method, a first set of the sensor coordinates to first display screen coordinates; determining that a first one of the pressure values is greater than or equal to a threshold pressure value; determining that a second one of the pressure values is less than the threshold pressure value, after determining that the first one of the pressure values is greater than or equal to the threshold pressure value; in response to the determining that the second one of the pressure values is less than the threshold pressure value, mapping, using a second mapping method, a second set of the sensor coordinates to second display screen coordinates; and outputting the first display screen coordinates and the second display screen coordinates. Accordingly, an operator can easily switch the mapping to the second method.

A method of generating pen data includes periodically sampling an interaction of a pen on a sensor surface in which a detected pen tip pressure is greater than zero. Pen data including detected pen positions are reported. In response to a pen up event in which the detected pen tip pressure is zero, an intended end-of-stroke position of the pen tip is predicted based on a detected pen tip position occurring at least two, three, or more samples earlier than the sample at the pen up event. The predicted intended end-of-stroke position is reported in (1) the pen data for the sample at the pen up event, in place of the actual pen tip position detected at the pen up event, or in (2) the pen data for one or more samples preceding the pen up event, in place of the actual pen tip position in the one or more samples preceding the pen up event.

System and method providing pen up positioning assist for a sensor surface

A hand-written information processing apparatus is provided by which such correction as to directly deal with a design drawn on a paper sheet or the like can be performed. The hand-written information processing apparatus includes a stylus detection sensor, a connection interface for outputting writing information corresponding to a writing operation of a stylus to an external apparatus which includes a display screen for displaying an image, and a display image processing information generation circuit for generating display image processing information for performing a given image operation process based on an operation input accepted by an operation input acceptance unit to the display image. An inputting face is configured such that a sheet member on which writing corresponding to a writing operation of a stylus can be visually formed can be placed thereon. In addition to a normal stylus, an ink stylus which can form a writing trace visually on a sheet member can be utilized. The hand-written information processing apparatus has a first mode for the normal stylus and a second mode for retaining writing information by the ink stylus into a memory.

An adjustable stand for rotatably and releaseably supporting a flat panel display is disclosed together with a display device usable with the stand. The display includes a boss projecting from a rear surface thereof, which boss is received in an arc-shaped channel in a plate portion of the stand. The stand further includes two hingedly connected legs and selective locking devices for controlling the angle between the legs, thereby allowing the stand hold the display in a variety of orientations with respect to a horizontal support surface.
