To provide a seal between a rotatable tubular member and a stationary housing, which surrounds the end of the tubular member, a gripping device is non-rotatably secured to the outside peripheral surface of the rotatable tubular member and a sealing element is provided, which is radially movably disposed in the gripping device and rotates with the latter and is in sealing relation to the housing. In order to ensure an effective seal regardless of axial and radial movements of the rotatable tubular member, and to provide a simple structure, which is non-susceptible, the gripping device consists of two spaced apart rings, which are secured to the outside peripheral surface of the rotatable tubular member. Each ring is provided on its inside near its outside diameter with a resilient sealing and restraining element, which protrudes from the surface of the ring. A sealing washer is gripped between the restraining elements and is radially and tangentially displaceable relative to the restraining elements. The circular outer rim of the sealing washer is in sealing relation to and self-centering in the housing and defines only a small clearance therewith.

Face seal arrangement for sealing a rotatable tubular member

An apparatus for producing a continuous strip of foamed ceramic or glass comprises a tubular furnace traversed by a plurality of molds suspended from respective trolleys or carriages and disposed in end-to-end relationship within the furnace. The molds are swung open after cooling and separated from one another as they leave the strip by being elevated at a downstream portion of the mold path.

A sinter crushing machine having a crushing screen and a crushing roll, the screen having hollow teeth with nozzle means for directing a spray of coolant over the working surfaces thereof and the roll having hollow spikes with nozzle means for directing a spray of coolant, such that the working surfaces of the screen and roll are respectively cooled by a substantially uniform amount of coolant at substantially uniform temperatures.

A temperature measurement device for rotary kilns comprises a stripping sleeve rigidly mounted in a bore or the shell of a rotary kiln and has one end portion extending into the rotary kiln. A ceramic ring is mounted at the one end portion of the sleeve and a protective tube is slidably mounted in the stripping sleeve and through the opening in the ceramic ring. A thermocouple is disposed in the protective tube at one end portion thereof that corresponds to the one end portion of the stripping sleeve. The protective tube is lifted to retract its one end portion until the end thereof is disposed in the ceramic ring thereby scraping off any crust thereon and the tube is then lowered to such an extent that the one end portion thereof protrudes from the ceramic ring so that temperature measurement can be effected.
