An endless conveyor belt has a thermal fluid (gas or liquid) sprayed against a portion of its underside to define a temperature-controlled region of the belt. To prevent the lateral escape of the thermal fluid, stationary seals are provided which contact the belt underside adjacent respective longitudinal edges of the belt. To keep the seals in continuous contact with the belt, despite warping that might occur, the seals carry magnets, and the belt is formed of a magnetizable material. Hence, the magnets force the belt and seals together.

Device for sealing lateral edge areas of an endless conveyor belt

A melt is crystallized by introducing the melt into a gap formed between two belts. The gap-forming flights of the belts travel in opposite directions. An upper one of the flights is cooled so that an upper surface of the melt crystallizes thereon and is removed from the gap on the upper belt. The lower belt removes the residual melt from the gap and that residual melt is recycled to the gap.

Process and apparatus for the crystallization of a melt

A substance is provided in molten form and then converted into crystallized pellets. The pellets are conveyed into a vessel having an open lower end, whereby the pellets continuously advance downwardly. As the pellets advance, they are subjected to a hot gas flow which causes outer contaminated surfaces of the pellets to melt and drip off. The remaining pellets travel out through the opening in a direction transversely of the direction of the dripping. In this manner, the substance is purified.

Process and apparatus for the purification of substances

A layer of granules is deposited onto a conveyor belt and then heated and pressed to form a final product (e.g., floor covering). The layer is deposited from a funnel having a bottom outlet. Disposed across the outlet are a rotary sizing roll which forms a first gap with the belt, and an inclined guide plate which forms a second gap with the sizing roll. Granules flow through the second and first gaps, and then onto the belt. The second gap is larger than the first gap so that excess granules are supplied to the first gap, thereby assuring that no voids are created in the deposited layer. The guide plate is oscillated to facilitate a back-flow of excess granules to resist the possibility of excess granules being forced through by the sizing roll.

Apparatus for the production of mat webs from a mixture of granules

A fiber web reinforced plastic is formed by applying dry resin powder to opposite sides of a vertically moving web, and then melting and pressing the power into the web. The dry powder is applied to the web by being thrown thereagainst. The powder thus more effectively occupies the voids in the web to minimize the presence of air in the web. The thrown-on powder can be melted before the laminating pressure is applied.

Apparatus for the production of fiber web reinforced plastic laminates

A dual belt press comprises a pair of endless belts forming oppositely facing press flights. The press flights are pressed toward one another by press plates, with freely rotating rollers disposed between the press flights and press plates. Each press plate comprises a support plate and a plurality of plate strips mounted on a surface of the support plate facing the associated press flight. The plate strips have longitudinal axes extending obliquely relative to the direction of travel of the press flights and obliquely relative to axes of rotation of the rollers. The plate strips are heated or cooled by a fluid traveling through conduits formed in the plate strips or clamped between adjacent plate strips.

In a dual belt press, the press belts are supported at each end by a first chain. The first chain includes spaced links through which a stud projects. A sleeve is mounted on each stud between the spaced links. The outer circumferences of adjacently disposed sleeves abut one another to prevent lateral displacement of the studs and rolls. A second chain is connected to the studs and is adapted to be driven in order to displace the rolls along a press zone of the press.

Guide chain for the rolls of a dual belt press

In the production of a glass mat-reinforced thermoplastic, a mat and resin are pressed and heated in a compression zone of a dual belt press. The resin is metered onto the upper flights of the two belts of the press in powder form, and is heated at least to the extent that it adheres as a layer to those flights so as to be conveyed without difficulty into the compression zone. The glass fiber mat itself can be preimpregnated with resin prior to entering the press.

Apparatus for the production of multilayer laminated plates, in particular circuit boards for electrotechnical applications, wherein webs of glass fiber roving fabric are impregnated with a synthetic resin binder, and subsequently pressed in a dual belt press. Upstream of the press, a heating table comprising a plurality of heating panels is provided. The webs of material, coated with the binder, are combined and impregnated in the heating zone. In the heating zone the binder used may be maintained exactly at the processing temperature. Rapid hardening binders may be used so that the transition of the binder from its liquid to its solid state takes place in the press even during short press durations.

Apparatus and process for the production of multilayer laminated plates

An apparatus produces granules from two-phase mixtures wherein an initial substance is enriched with crystal nuclei in a temperature controlled precrystallizer and the resultant precrystallized melt is fully crystallized on a cooling surface. A droplet former is disposed over the cooling surface and includes inner and outer telescoping tubes. The inner tube communicates downstream with the precrystallizer and has a plurality of outlet orifices for conducting the precrystallized melt outwardly therethrough. The outer and inner tubes are arranged for relative rotation. The outer tube has a plurality of discharge orifices which are intermittently alignable with the outlet apertures in response to relative rotation between the tubes for discharging drops of precrystallized mass onto the cooling surface.

Apparatus for the production of granules from two-phase mixtures

In a double band press the compressing pressure is applied to the endless bands by pressure plates via intermediate pressure rolls. The pressure rolls extend transversely to the running direction of the steel bands and are interconnected at their ends by a guide chain. More than two pressure rolls are associated with each pair of connecting bolts of the guide chain. The axes of the pressure rolls are parallel and are offset transversely relative to the axes of the connecting bolts of the guide chain. In this manner, a stable connection of the pressure rolls among themselves is made possible, with the pressure rolls having a smaller diameter and being capable of being arranged closely adjacent to each other. A more uniform and higher distribution of pressure may be obtained thereby.

Double band press

A crystallizing apparatus particularly for use with undercooled melts. Crystallizing is effected on the cooling conveyor belt in a thick layer. A precrystallizer comprises at least two rolls arranged above the cooling conveyor and rotating in the same direction. A shear gap is formed between the at least two rolls. A melt is applied to an uppermost one of the at least two rolls in a thin layer. In the course of the path followed by the melt over the at least two rolls, shearing forces are generated within the area of the shear gap, which enhance the nucleation. A further enhancement of nucleation is obtained by cooling the at least two rolls, so that relatively large volumes of the melt may be crystallized per unit time in the crystallizing apparatus without the need for the addition of supplemental seed crystals to the melt. The amount of melt in the precrystallizer is very small.

Crystallizing apparatus

A double belt press comprises two endless steel belts revolving in opposing directions with mutually facing sides thereof pressed against each other and against material passed therebetween by means of stationary, temperature-controlled press plates. The belts are guided by revolving roller chains on the press plates which are speed-coordinated with the roller chains. A heat transfer mechanism is provided along the path of travel of the roller chain of at least one press plate in order to change the temperature of the roll elements of the roller chains.

Double belt press

An apparatus for the preparation of granulate from hot-melting mixes comprises a pourer connected by a filter-containing conduit to at least one mixing and melting device. The strip pourer is disposed above a cooling conveyor which feeds to a crushing device. The pourer comprises a heated tubular body provided on its under side with discharge nozzles arranged in at least one row. A filter is disposed within the tubular body across the discharge nozzles to prevent unwanted particles from reaching the nozzles.
