An electric motor may include a stator assembly comprising a stator housing, and one or more rotors coupled to the stator by a rotor shaft assembly. The stator housing may include a cooling structure that has a plurality of cooling body portions and a plurality of cooling conduits defined by the plurality of cooling body portions. A method of forming a stator housing for an electric machine may include additively manufacturing a stator housing that includes a cooling structure defining a fluid domain, coupling a working fluid source to the stator housing and introducing a working fluid into the fluid domain defined by the cooling structure, and sealing the cooling structure with the working fluid contained within the fluid domain of the cooling structure. A method of cooling an electric machine may include heating the working fluid in the fluid domain and flowing the working fluid through the fluid domain, and transferring heat from the cooling structure to a cooling fluid flowing along one or more cooling surfaces contacting a surface of the electric machine.

The method includes inserting or forming non-magnetic posts into the magnetic flux barriers such that each of the non-magnetic posts is elongated in a different radial direction of the radial directions from a first magnetic flux carrier portion to a second magnetic flux carrier portion of the magnetic flux carrier portions on opposite sides of at least one magnetic flux barrier; and forming at least part of a rotor for an electric machine assembly using the magnetically conductive sheets having the magnetic flux carrier portions, the non-magnetic posts, and the magnetic flux barriers.

A motor driven propulsor of an aircraft includes magnets disposed in fan shrouds of fan blades connected with a fan hub, a stator having individual conductive coils in a nacelle located radially outside of the fan hub, and a distributed inverter assembly having several inverter power stages and gate drivers, each of the inverter power stages coupled with a separate gate driver of the gate drivers and a separate coil of the coils in the stator. Each of the gate drivers is configured to individually control supply of direct current to the corresponding inverter power stage. Each of the inverter power stages is configured to convert the direct current supplied to the inverter power stage to an alternating current that is supplied to the corresponding coil in the stator to rotate the magnets and the fan blades around a center line of the fan hub for propelling the aircraft.

An electric machine assembly includes a rotor formed from one or more magnetically conductive sheets having elongated magnetic flux barriers separated from each other in radial directions that radially extend away from an axis of rotation of the rotor. The magnetic flux barriers are separated from each other by magnetic flux carrier portions of the one or more magnetically conductive sheets. The assembly also includes a non-magnetic post coupled with the magnetic flux carrier portions of the one or more magnetically conductive sheets on opposite sides of at least one of the magnetic flux barriers. The non-magnetic post is elongated in the radial directions from a first magnetic flux carrier portion to a second magnetic flux carrier portion of the magnetic flux carrier portions on the opposite sides of the at least one magnetic flux barrier.

An electrical machine of a vehicle electrical propulsion system includes a stator, a rotor, and a stator winding all disposed within a housing thereof. The stator defines a central bore elongated along a longitudinal axis, and multiple slots circumferentially disposed around the central bore. The rotor is held within the central bore and rotates relative to the stator. The stator winding includes a core conductor, an insulation layer surrounding the core conductor, and a conductive shield layer surrounding the insulation layer. The stator winding extends through the slots of the stator. The stator winding includes an in-slot portion within the slots of the stator and an end-winding portion outside of the slots. The conductive shield layer surrounds the insulation layer along both the in-slot portion and the end-winding portion of the stator winding.

A power system for a marine ship includes a plurality of protection zones, wherein at least two protection zones are coupled to each other via at least one bus-tie converter. Each of the protection zones includes a plurality of direct current (DC) buses; wherein DC buses which do not have same DC voltage are coupled to each other via at least one DC to DC converter. Furthermore, at least one energy source is coupled to at least one DC bus via a power electronic converter.

A process of forming an encapsulated magnet assembly is provided, the process comprising welding a second portion of a housing cover formed of a non-magnetic material to a first portion of a housing cover formed of a magnetic material to provide a welded housing cover and subsequently heat-treating the welded housing cover at a temperature effective to relieve weld stress; disposing a magnet within a housing comprising at least one wall formed of the non-magnetic material and defining at least one aperture; and welding the heat treated welded housing cover to the housing such that the second portion of the housing cover is fixedly attached to the housing wall to hermetically seal the aperture. In one embodiment, the magnet of the encapsulated magnet assembly is a permanent magnet, and in an alternate embodiment an electromagnet. In one embodiment the encapsulated magnet assembly is a component of a stator-rotor assembly.
