An amplifier operates to provide a high output impedance at an output through a push stage having a first transistor of a first transistor type and a pull stage having a second transistor of a second transistor type that is different from the first transistor type. The first transistor and the second transistor are coupled in a common-gate configuration. The first transistor and the second transistor are shorted together via a capacitor coupled to an input and share a common current path as a push-pull current-reusing common-gate low noise amplifier with a broadband input matching.

An amplifier circuit includes a gain controller, a first amplifier, and a second amplifier which is coupled in series to the first amplifier, the second amplifier comprising a plurality of amplifying units. The gain controller is configured to receive a desired gain value and provide, based on the received desired gain value, a gain adjust signal to the first amplifier, and activate, based on the received desired gain value, a certain combination of amplifying units of the plurality of amplifying units of the second amplifier, such that a combined gain of the first amplifier and the active amplifying units of the second amplifier corresponds to the received desired gain value.

The invention relates to a method for calibrating an oscillating receiver circuit of a transponder in an RFID system to resonance to the frequency of an inquiry signal transmitted by a reader, the oscillating receiver circuit comprising at least one inductive resistor and at least one capacitor. Immediately after the start of reception of the inquiry signal, capacitors are connected in increments to the capacitance of the oscillating receiver circuit until such time as the rectified, smoothed inquiry signal assumes a maximum voltage value. This active self-calibration is performed upon each initialization of the transponder but can also be addressed by having the reader send a special sequence to the transponder.
