Systems and methods for a fault protection are provided that can be implemented in a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) to limit the magnitude of a current that flows when an AC-to-chassis fault (ACF) occurs between an AC connection and the chassis of the HEV. An electric machine having a winding, an inverter sub-module (ISM) having a first switch and a second switch, and fault protection elements (FPEs), coupled to the ISM, are provided. The winding is coupled to the ISM coupled via the AC connection. The FPEs can include, for example, first and second inductances. To limit the magnitude of the current, the current can be passed along a first current path that includes the second inductance when the first switch is closed, and can be passed along a second current path that includes the first inductance when the second switch is closed.

A system and method for transferring power from power sources to an AC power system are disclosed. Briefly described, one embodiment electrically couples an external AC power source to a first input power control (IPC) module that is rated at a first AC input power capacity and that is rated at a first direct current (DC) input power capacity, operates the first IPC module up to the first AC input power capacity in response to receiving AC power from an external AC power source, electrically couples an external DC power source to a second IPC module that is rated at a second AC input power capacity and that is rated at a second DC input power capacity, and operates the second IPC module up to the second DC input power capacity in response to receiving DC power from an external DC power source.

Briefly described, one embodiment is a method for transferring power from a plurality of power sources to an AC system through an IPC module. Method and circuit for synchronizing parallel voltage source inverters

A method for transmitting phase angle information between inverters in a parallel connected inverter system to synchronize the phase angles of the inverters includes transmitting a common phase angle signal to server inverters. The common phase angle signal is a function of the phase angle of a master inverter. The common phase angle signal is indicative of the absolute phase angle of the master inverter when the phase angle of the master inverter is equal to a phase angle value associated with a new phase cycle. The common phase angle signal is indicative of an incremental phase angle change of the phase angle of the master inverter in a given time period while the phase angle of the master inverter is different from the value associated with a new phase cycle. The server inverters control their phase angles in accordance with the common phase angle signal such that the phase angles of the master inverter and the server inverters are synchronized.
