Styrenic polymer and molded article

The present invention relates to a process for efficiently purifying a styrenic polymer which comprises adding a poor solvent alone or in combination with a swelling agent to a syndiotactic polystyrene produced by the use of a catalyst comprising (A) an aluminoxane or a coordination complex compound comprising a cation and an anion in which a plurality of radicals are bonded to a metal and (B) a transition metal compound, and treating the polystyrene under a controlled water content of 15 to 10,000 ppm to simultaneously carry out deactivation and deashing. The above process can efficiently remove residual metals without using a deashing agent and afford a highly pure high-grade crystalline styrenic polymer excellent in color tone.

Process for purification of styrenic polymer

A resin laminate comprising layer of styrene-based polymer having mainly syndiotactic configuration and a thermoplastic resin layer, a metallized laminate comprising a layer of the styrene-based polymer described above and a metal layer, and process for producing these laminates are disclosed. In the laminate, the styrene-based polymer layer and the thermoplastic resin layer may be biaxially stretched. The laminates are expected to be utilized for electrostatic capacitors, hot stamping foils, flexible printed circuit board substrates, food wrapping films, and other functional films including magnetic tapes, and ornament films.

Nonwoven fabric and process for producing same

A styrene-based polymer molding is obtained molding a styrene-based polymer having mainly syndiotactic configuration and then irradiating the molding thus obtained with electron rays. This molding is excellent in heat resistance and further inexpensive. Thus the molding is useful as a material required to have high heat resistance, such as a structural material, a food container material, a food wrapping material or an electric or electronic part material, particularly as an electric or electronic part material, because it is excellent in soldering resistance.

Styrene-based polymer moldings and process for production thereof

There are disclosed a styrenic resin molding having a high crystallinity and excellent in heat resistance, solvent resistance and transparency, and a process for producing the same. Specifically the present invention provides an orientable or thermoformable non-oriented styrenic resin molding having a crystallinity of 25% or more, a spherulite radius of 10 .mu.m or less and a haze of 5% or less and comprising a styrenic polymer having a high degree of syndiotactic configuration; a process for producing the above non-oriented molding; a transparent styrenic-resin molding having a crystallinity of 30% or more which is obtained by thermoforming or orienting the above non-oriented molding at an expansion ratio by area of 1.2 or more; and the process for producing the same. The styrenic resin molding of the present invention can be effectively utilized as heat-resisting transparent sheet, medical treatment container, microwave-range container, food package container such as hot packing container, oven container, retort container, etc., and heat-resisting transparent container such as heat-resisting bottle.

Styrenic resin molding and process for producing same

A resin composition comprising 5 to 95 parts by weight of a saponified product of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (A) having an ethylene content of 20 to 60 mol % and a degree of saponification of at least 90% and 95 to 5 parts by weight of a styrene-based polymer (B) having mainly syndiotactic configuration. The resin composition has gas barrier properties and a markedly improved heat resistance.

Styrene-based resin composition containing as main components (A) 100 parts by weight of a styrene-based polymer having mainly a syndiotactic configuration and (B) 0.01 to 25 parts by weight of one or more nucleating agents selected from the group consisting of (1) metal salts of organic acids having an average particle diameter of not more than 50 .mu.m, (2) inorganic compounds having an average particle diameter of not more than 50 .mu.m, (3) organophosphorus compounds having an average particle diameter of not more than 50 .mu.m, and (4) metal salts of ionic hydrocarbon copolymer, and a process for producing styrene-based resin moldings by molding the above styrene-based resin composition at a temperature between room temperature and 200.degree. C. The resin composition of the present invention is suitable for injection molding and extrusion molding, and provides moldings which are of high crystallinity and are excellent in heat resistance, solvent resistance, chemical resistance and so forth.

Styrene-based resin composition and process for production of moldings

Disclosed are a material for extrusion molding comprising a styrene-based polymer having a high degree of syndiotactic configuration, a melt viscosity of 10.sup.3 to less than 10.sup.6 poise measured at 300.degree. C. and a shearing rate of 10/sec, and a crystallinity of 15% or more, a process for preparation of the said material and a process for preparation of a molding product therefrom. The molding product prepared according to the present invention has excellent properties such as heat resistance and chemical resistance.

A styrene-based polymer molding is obtained by molding a styrene-based polymer having mainly syndiotactic configuration and then irradiating the molding thus obtained with electron rays. This molding is excellent in heat resistance and further inexpensive. Disclosed is a resin composition which comprises (a) 5 to 95% by weight of a styrene-based polymer having a syndiotactic configuration, (b) 95 to 9% by weight of a thermoplastic resin having at least one polar group selected from a carboxyl group, a hydroxyl group and an amino group at the terminal; and (c) 0.01 to 15 parts by weight of a styrene-based copolymer obtained by copolymerizing a styrene compound with a vinyl compound having an epoxy group or a styrene-based copolymer obtained by copolymerizing a styrene compound with an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride based on 100 parts by weight of the aobve components (a) and (b). The composition exhibits no laminar peeling and has an excellent appearance because affinity and dispersibility of the styrene-based polymer and the thermoplastic resin are improved, and a polystyrene-based resin composition improved in mechanical strength can also be obtained without using a complicated process.

Disclosed are a styrene polymer molding material which has a high degree of syndiotacticity, a weight average molecular weight of 50,000 or more, and at least one melting points of 285.degree. C. or higher, and a process for producing the same by melting a styrene polymer having a high degree of syndioacticity and then molding it under a stress of 1.times.10.sup.6 dyne/cm.sup.2 or higher. The styrene polymer molding material of the present invention has excellent heat resistance. In addition, according to the process of the present invention, the above polymer molding material having excellent heat resistance can be prepared by a simple operation, and thus has marked advantages for practical use.

Process for preparation of molding product from syndiotactic styrene

Nonwoven fabrics are disclosed, which are produced by molding a material containing as a main component a styrene-based polymer with mainly syndiotactic configuration, in such a manner that a difference between the absolute value of heat of fusion .vertline..DELTA.Hf.vertline. and the absolute value of crystallizing enthalpy on heating .vertline..DELTA.Htcc.vertline. of the molded polymer is at least 1 cal/g. These nonwoven fabrics are excellent in heat-resistant and chemical-resistant characteristics, and are suitable for use as medical fabrics, industrial filters, battery separators and so forth.

A method of wrapping plant materials for storage by wrapping the plant materials with a food wrapping material obtained by stretching a styrene-based polymer film with mainly syndiotactic configuration. The wrapping material is transparent, has gloss and is excellent in physical properties such as gas permeability and heat resistance making it very useful in the method for wrapping material such as vegetables and fruits requiring permeation and diffusion of gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide.
