The present invention relates to a solid-state blended polymer system that has the property of tunable lasing wavelength through adjusting the blending ratio. It can be used for health monitoring, environmental monitoring sensor and tissue imaging. Current materials do not have the broad tunable range; from blue to infra-red across the optical range. By using the same two polymers, it is possible to produce laser emitting blue to red colour. It simplifies the design, eases multi-wavelength laser sensor system integration and therefore, making the production cost-effective.

Tunable laser materials comprising solid-state blended polymers

A method for forming a substrate with a multi-layered, flexible, and anti-scratch metal oxides protective coating being deposited onto the substrate is provided in the present invention, wherein the top most layer of the coating comprises AlOor a mixture thereof such that the top most layer acts as an anti-scratching layer. The multi-layered, flexible and anti-scratch metal oxides protective coating also retains the flexibility of the underlying substrate.

Sapphire coated substrate with a flexible, anti-scratch and multi-layer coating

A method to transfer a layer of harder thin film substrate onto a softer, flexible substrate. In particular, the present invention provides a method to deposit a layer of sapphire thin film on to a softer and flexible substrate e.g. quartz, fused silica, silicon, glass, toughened glass, PET, polymers, plastics, paper and fabrics. This combination provides the hardness of sapphire thin film to softer flexible substrates.

Sapphire thin film coated substrate

A composition of AR layer that is aimed to match the refractive index of the underlying substrate e.g. glass, chemically strengthened glass, plastics etc., so as maximum light is transmitting through it. For a device with an sapphire film for anti-scratch protection, because sapphire has a different refractive index to that of the substrate, therefore existing AR layer will not function as well as it should; not only the transmitted light is reduced in quantity, its transmitted range will be changed such that imaging or display color is compromised. Therefore an integrated AR with sapphire film with the top most AR layer as AlOwhich also acts as anti-scratching layer will eliminate this problem. This claim involves replacing one of the materials for AR layer is AlOsuch that the top most AR layer as AlOwhich also acts as anti-scratching layer.

The present invention relates to a nano bi-material, electromagnetic spectrum shifter based on said nano bi-material and method to produce said electromagnetic spectrum shifter using said nano bi-material. A method to deposit a layer of harder thin film substrate onto a softer substrate. In particular, the present invention provides a method to deposit a layer of sapphire thin film on to a softer substrate e.g. quartz, fused silica, silicon and (toughen) glass. This combination is better than pure sapphire substrate.

A method and apparatus of fabrication of a multilayer flexible metamaterial can be fabricated using flip chip transfer (FCT) technique. This technique is different from other similar techniques such as metal lift off process, which fabricates the nanostructures directly onto the flexible substrate or nanometer printing technique. It is a solution-free FCT technique using double-side optical adhesive as the intermediate transfer layer and a tri-layer metamaterial nanostructures on a rigid substrate can be transferred onto adhesive first. Another embodiment of the present invention is the fabrication method and apparatus that allows the transfer of the metamaterial from a rigid substrate such as glass, quartz and metals onto a flexible substrate such as plastic or polymer film. Thus, a flexible metamaterial can be fabricated independent of the original substrate used.

Fabrication of highly flexible near-infrared metamaterials

This invention provides a system and a method for measuring displacements and movements, particularly for measuring very fine displacements and very minute movements. Position, vibration and rotational/angular movements can be measured. One or more directions can be measured simultaneously. In one embodiment, the system comprises one or more measuring means at least configured to tune multiple color emissions from a laser comprising an organic laser and/or a cascaded organic laser, such that the tuned multiple color emissions of the laser are used in measurements. The system is scalable in order to support measurement across a very large space. Optionally, the system further comprises a thin film laser generating device for generating said laser, blue and green emission organic semiconductors for generating said organic laser, and laser sensors for sensing said laser where said laser sensors comprise organic laser sensors and/or cascaded organic laser sensors.

Organic laser for measurement

A novel multilayer flexible metamaterial that can work at near infrared (NIR) regime that can be fabricated on transparent PET substrate using flip chip transfer (FCT) technique. An embodiment of the present invention also provides novel NIR metamaterial device that can be transformed into various shapes by bending the PET substrate, wherein said metamaterial device is tunable via physical manipulation of its flexible substrate with no requirement to change the material composition of the substrate. The flexibility allows the novel NIR metamaterial device to bend and stretch, which can alter the device structure. Since the resonant frequency of each device is a function of the device structure, the resonant frequency can be tuned by the bend and stretch of the substrate. Another embodiment of the present invention further provides novel tunable sensors and emitters using such flexible metamaterials and devices.

Highly flexible near-infrared metamaterials

A light emitting diode (LED), and a method for producing the same. The LED includes a substrate that may be made of silicon, a first conductive layer on one side, and a porous insulating layer on the opposite side. The insulating layer defines microcavities therein, the microcavities having sharp tips on their inner surfaces. The microcavities have gas inside. A second conductive layer is disposed over the insulating layer. When an electrical potential is applied between the conductive layers, the gas-filled microcavities act as plasma discharge lamps, emitting light. The light may be in the ultraviolet portion of the spectrum. The method includes etching a substrate to produce a porous insulating layer on one side, depositing a first conductive layer on the opposite side, and depositing a second conductive layer over the insulating layer. The microcavities in the insulating layer are then filled with gas.
