In a wavelength converting method, an ambient that is in contact with a surface of a non-linear optical crystal from which wavelength-converted light is outputted is a gas that is lower in content of nitrogen than air. A wavelength converting device includes a device for controlling the ambient in contact with a surface of the non-linear optical crystal from which the wavelength-converted light is outputted so the ambient is lower in nitrogen than air. A laser machining device includes the wavelength converting device.

A semiconductor laser array is located beside a solid state laser element, and an optical resonator for excitation light includes a coating highly reflective to an oscillation wavelength of the semiconductor laser array on an end face of the semiconductor laser array, opposite from the solid state laser element and a side of the solid state laser element. The solid state laser element is located inside of the optical resonator, and the solid state laser element is excited optically by the excitation light.

In a solid-state laser amplifying apparatus and a solid-state laser apparatus, a high-power laser beam can be produced in a high efficiency under stable condition. The solid-state laser amplifying apparatus is comprised of a solid-state element containing an activated solid medium; a flow tube for causing a cooling medium used to cool the solid-state element to flow therethrough; a light condensing device arranged so as to surround the solid-state element, for holding the flow tube by directly, or indirectly sandwiching the flow tube, an inner surface of which is formed as a diffusion/reflection surface; an excitation light source arranged outside the light condensing device, for emitting excitation light used to excite the solid-state element; and an opening portion provided with the light condensing device, for conducting the excitation light.

A laser system wherein, in order that a high-output and high-quality single mode of a cross sectional area larger than the beam diameter determined by the construction of a resonator can be obtained stably, although this has heretofore been impossible, there is used a coupling mirror provided with a partial reflection film and an antireflecting film, a laser beam mode is selected using the partial reflection film, a phase difference between laser beam portions caused by a difference in construction between the partial reflection film and the antireflecting film is compensated using a phase difference compensating means, and there is formed an aperture whose diameter is set to a value of not larger than four times the diameter of the partial reflection film.

A solid state laser apparatus is provided to generate a high quality and high power laser beam, and a laser machining apparatus is provided to perform laser machining by a laser beam generated from the solid state laser apparatus. In the solid state laser apparatus, a laser resonator includes a solid state component cooled in a cylindrical pipe by contacting liquid which is introduced through an inflow opening and discharged through an outflow opening, the solid state component having larger refractive index than that of the liquid, a light source turned ON by a power source to excite the solid state component, and an optical system transmitting light from the light source to the solid state component. Further, a surface roughness of the solid state component is adjusted so as to adjust an excitation distribution in a section of the solid state component. The solid state component further includes moving means for moving a reflection mirror and a condensing lens in a direction of an optical axis of the laser resonator, and a housing accommodating an image transferring optical system. A laser beam is generated from the laser resonator, and is externally derived and used to perform the laser machining.

Solid state laser apparatus and laser machining apparatus

An output laser beam of an unstable laser resonator has a circular cross sectional pattern, so that a condensation thereof becomes easy, resulting in a high power beam. The circular pattern is obtained by making an expanding mirror of the resonator partially transmissible and compensating for a phase difference between laser beam portions passing through the expanding mirror and other portion of a window mirror.

Laser apparatus

In a laser device employing an optical resonator which is constructed of a total reflection mirror and a partial reflection mirror, a total reflection plane having an opening is interposed between the partial reflection mirror and the total reflection mirror, the total reflection plane may be formed of, for example, a dielectric thin film or a metallic totally-reflective thin film produced with a cluster ion beam, and the total reflection plane and the total reflection mirror are arranged so as to establish a resonant state. The total reflection plane is formed on an aperture of the partial reflection mirror. The opening of the total reflection plane may be ring-shaped, or a plurality of openings may be provided. The total reflection plane may be located centrally. In a laser device employing an unstable optical resonator, a beam deriving mirror may be disposed within the optical resonator.

Laser device

A laser machining apparatus includes a laser resonator capable of producing a laser beam having a filled-in intensity distribution pattern and a condensing device for converting the beam into a suitable beam to perform an intended machining. A device is provided for regulating phase of the laser beam to improve the condensed laser beam. The apparatus may also include a device for pulsating the beam and a device for changing a focal depth of the beam.

Laser machining apparatus

A laser device having an infrared laser medium and an aperture member disposed within a resonator in which the mode symmetry is improved. An optical resonator including a total reflecting mirror and a partial reflecting mirror disposed at opposite ends of a gap between electrodes is arranged parallel to an optical axis and orthogonal to a gas flow direction. An aperture member disposed along the optical axis between the mirrors on the side of the partial reflecting mirror has the form of a ring having an axis coinciding with the optical axis. Plural laser beam detecting elements are disposed on the inner peripheral area of the ring. The angular positions of the mirrors are controlled such that a difference in outputs of the detecting elements is minimized.

A laser apparatus has a phase regulator for regulating phase of output laser beam is provided, in which a full reflection portion of an output mirror is made partially reflective and a relative optical length thereof to a non-reflection portion of the output mirror is regulated by a relative thickness thereof. In one aspect of the invention, a coating provided on a center portion of an inner surface of an output mirror of a resonator comprises a partially reflective coating and a phase difference between laser beam portions passing through the center portion and a surrounding portion is regulated by a thin membrane having same refraction index as that of a matrix of the output mirror and provided between the matrix and a coating on either surface of the output mirror.
