A computer comprises a controller and a storage apparatus which is configured to provide a storage area for storing data. The controller and the storage apparatus have a function of achieving encryption and decryption of data through use of an encryption key. The computer is configured to: execute encryption key setting processing for setting the encryption key in the controller and the storage apparatus so that the controller holds the same encryption key as the encryption key of the storage apparatus; and determine whether to enable the function of any one of the controller and the storage apparatus, based on load states of the controller and the storage apparatus when an I/O request is received.

A storage system includes an expander sequence including a plurality of expanders coupled in series, a plurality of storage devices coupled to the expander sequence, first and second initiator devices coupled to the expander sequence, and a processor. The processor selects an optimal path, with respect to a transmission destination device of a command among the plurality of storage devices and the plurality of expanders, between the optimal path which is an initiator device with fewer expanders in a distance to the transmission destination device and a roundabout path which is an initiator device with more expanders in a distance to the transmission destination device, and transmits the command to the transmission destination device through the selected optimal path.

Storage system and storage control method to select path for transmitting command via SAS expanders

A storage system comprises a storage device for storing data, a control apparatus which controls the storage device and comprises multiple communication ports, and a switch apparatus which expands the number of storage device couplings and comprises multiple communication ports. Respective multiple communication ports of the control apparatus are coupled to respective multiple communication ports of the switch apparatus, and the switch apparatus is coupled to the storage device. The control apparatus configures at least one communication port of the multiple communication ports of the control apparatus, to a dedicated communication port for outputting only a prescribed command issued when a failure is detected.

Storage system, storage control apparatus and method for failure recovery

Reduction of data processing capacity attributable to the occurrence of a failure is prevented by promptly identifying the failure location. A storage apparatus includes a plurality of expanders connected to storage media storing data sent from a host system, and a controller for controlling the expanders, wherein the controller sends a failure detection command to the plurality of expanders; the plurality of expanders store the command in their own storage units; and if one expander from among the plurality of expanders detects a failure in another expander immediately following and connected to the one expander, the one expander reads the command stored in a storage unit for the one expander and sends a response including failure detection information corresponding to the command to the controller.
