The method for manufacturing a suspension for disc drive includes a process for manufacturing a semi-finished suspension product integrally including a base plate, a rigid body portion of a load beam, and a pair of connecting portions connecting the base plate and the rigid body portion. The method also includes a process for fixing a spring member, formed independently of the semi-finished suspension product, to the base plate and the rigid body portion of the semi-finished product, and a process for cutting off the connecting portions, projecting individually from the opposite sides of the spring member, from the base plate and the rigid body portion after the spring member is fixed to the semi-finished suspension product.

Method for manufacturing a suspension for disc drive

A suspension for disc drive comprises a base plate, a load beam attached to the base plate, and a flexure attached to the load beam. The load beam includes a rigid body portion, formed of a thick plate independent of the base plate, and a spring portion, formed of a spring member in the form of a thin sheet independent of the rigid body portion. The spring member connects the rigid body portion and the base plate. The spring member is thinner than the rigid body portion and has a lower spring constant. The spring portion is more flexible than the rigid body portion.

Suspension for disc drive and manufacturing method therefor

A suspension for disc drive having a micro actuator mechanism comprises a base plate, a connecting plate having a hinge portion thinner than the base plate, a load beam provided with a flexure, a pair of actuator elements such as PZT, etc. The micro actuator mechanism includes a pivot portion formed between a pair of slits and support walls formed on the connecting plate. The actuator elements are provided individually on the opposite sides of the pivot portion. Each support wall is a bent portion that is formed by raising an edge portion of the connecting plate in the thickness direction of the main portion of the connecting plate.

Suspension for disc drive

A suspension for disc drive having a load beam and a flexure is provided with a limiter mechanism for regulating the movement of the flexure. The flexure includes a tongue portion provided with a magnetic head slider and a pair of outrigger portions situated individually on the opposite sides of the tongue portion. The limiter mechanism is provided with a nipping portion that is formed by bending part of the load beam. The nipping portion includes a first checking portion facing one surface of the flexure across a gap, a connecting portion situated ahead of the flexure, and a second checking portion extending rearward from the connecting portion and facing the other surface of the flexure across a gap.

A suspension comprises a load beam made of a thin metal plate, a flexure made of a thinner metal plate than this load beam and fixed to the load beam, and a wiring portion. The flexure includes a tongue, and a pair of outrigger portions positioned at both sides of the tongue. A slider is provided on the tongue. The wiring portion includes an electrical insulating resin layer provided on the flexure, and an electrical conductive layer laminated on this electrical insulating resin layer. The wiring portion further includes a middle flexible part along the outrigger portions. This middle flexible part is separated from the tongue and outrigger portions, and is in a suspended state in a slit between the tongue and outrigger portions.

A dot matrix print head in which the mass of the armature is reduced by providing a groove in the armature in the portion where the magnetic flux density is relatively low. The armature may be advantageously attached to a sheet spring by laser welding applied from the bottom surface of the groove without creating craters in the external face of the sheet spring. Reduction in the mass of the armature allows a substantial increase in the print speed of the print head. Use of laser welding reduces the manufacturing cost of the print head and the absence of any craters in the external face of the sheet spring is favorable for the performance of the magnetic circuit of the print head.

Dot matrix print head

In a print head comprising a plurality of magnetic circuits each of which comprises an armature supported by a spring, a permanent magnet for biasing the armature in one direction, and an electromagnet which can be energized so as to cancel the biasing force of the permanent magnet, so that a print wire fixed to the armature may be driven by energizing the electromagnet and thereby driving the armature with the restoring force of the spring. The cross-sectional areas of the paths of magnetic flux between neighboring electromagnet circuits are made uneven. This can be achieved by providing base portions which are common to two electromagnet core portions. Thereby, the print pressure of all the print wires is made uniform and an increase in printing speed and improved print quality can be achieved at the same time.
