A copying machine including a lower body, an upper body, a damper contractively arranged between the upper body and the lower body, and an adjusting member provided in the upper body is disclosed. The lower body end the upper body are rotatably connected with each other at ends thereof and can be opened at the other ends thereof. An original cover and an ADF are selectably mounted on the upper body so as to be replaced with each other. The adjusting member contracts the damper when the ADF is mounted on the upper body.

Copying machine

An image forming apparatus which has a contact glass, an original transporting part for transporting a sheet of original onto the contact glass, an optical exposure system for scanning the sheet of original placed on the contact glass by reciprocating movement below the contact glass, an image forming part for forming an image of the original obtained by the optical exposure system on a recording sheet, and a part for supplying the recording sheet to the image forming part. The original transporting part comprises an original storing part for storing sheets of original; means for transporting a sheet of original from the original storing part onto the contact glass; means for detecting the passage of the sheet of original, provided in the sheet transporting means; and means for outputting an original-exchange completion signal to the image forming apparatus after the passage detecting means detects the passage of the sheet of original and before the sheet transporting means positions the sheet of original onto a predetermined portion of said contact glass. The recording-sheet supply part comprises means for judging whether a next sheet of original to be transported to the contact glass exists; means for transporting a recording sheet to the image forming part; and means for controlling the transporting means whereby the recording sheet transporting means is begun before the optical exposure system starts to return, if a next sheet of original exists.

Transporting apparatus for sheets of original and recording-sheet

A sheet feeding mechanism includes a receiving member, a feed member for feeding sheets from a stack thereof on the receiving member, and an overlapping feed preventing device including a roller to be rotated in a predetermined direction and a friction member cooperating with the roller. In relation to the friction member, a device is provided for substantially preventing the leading end of a fed sheet from contacting that part of the friction member which is upstream, in the sheet feeding direction, of the nipping site between the friction member and the roller.

Sheet feeding mechanism

An electrostatic copying apparatus capable of both-surface copying includes a main copying system and a document sending device for conveying a document to be copied through an exposure area. The main copying system includes a copying paper conveying device defining a copying paper conveying passage, an image forming device for forming an image on copying paper conveyed through the paper conveying passage, a copying paper returning device defining a copying paper returning passage for returning copying paper having the image formed on one surface and a paper re-feed device for receiving the copying paper returned through the paper returning passage and feeding it again to the paper conveying passage. According to a first aspect, improvement is made in the paper re-feed device, and according to a second aspect, a document feed device in the document sending device is improved. There is also provided a sheet material feeding device which can be conveniently applied to the paper re-feed device or the document feed device. The sheet material feeding device includes a first feed device for feeding sheet materials in the stacked state from the uppermost one and a second feed device for feeding the sheet materials from the lowermost one.

Electrostatic copying apparatus capable of copying on both surfaces

An electrostatic copying apparatus conveys a copying paper sheet through a copying paper conveying passage thereby to form an image on one surface of the sheet, selectively introduces it into a copying paper returning passage, returns it to a copying paper re-sending device through the returning passage, and again feeds it into the paper conveying passage from the re-sending device so as to form an image on the other surface of the paper sheet. The paper re-sending device includes a copying paper receiving stand for receiving copying paper sheets and a delivery device disposed above the receiving stand. The delivery device is selectively maintained in a non-operating state in which it moves away from the copying paper received on the receiving stand, a first operating state in which it acts relatively weakly on the copying paper received on the receiving stand, and a second operating state at which it acts relatively strongly on the copying paper received on the receiving stand. A mechanism prevents feeding of papers in the superposed state, and a copying paper detecting mechanism, applicable to various types of electrostatic copying apparatus, permits effective detection of the arrival of a copying paper at the paper re-sending device.
