A printing apparatus that includes: a first obtaining unit that obtains a usage amount of an expendable from a time point of detection of a situation where a remaining amount of the expendable in an expendable replenishment container is lower than a predetermined value; a second obtaining unit that obtains a remaining amount in a tank; a first determination unit that determines a state of the remaining amount of the expendable by comparing the usage amount obtained by the first obtaining unit and the remaining amount in the tank obtained by the second obtaining unit with thresholds set respectively for the usage amount and the remaining amount; and a detection unit that detects the situation where the remaining amount of the expendable is lower than the predetermined value, in a case where the state determined by the first determination unit is a remaining amount low state.

The acquisition unit acquires a measurement result regarding a printing medium characteristic value. The decision unit decides a candidate for a printing medium type based on the acquired measurement result, and a reference characteristic value of each of printing media types set in advance to identify a type of the measured printing medium. Information associated with the printing medium type to be printed is input. The determination unit determines whether to change the reference characteristic value of the printing medium type associated with the input information based on the measurement result and the printing medium type associated with the input information. Wherein, when the determination unit determines to change the reference characteristic value, the change unit changes the reference characteristic value of the printing medium type based on the measurement result.

An information processing apparatus is configured to control an operation to determine a type of a printing medium to be printed by a printing unit, determine a type of printing medium indicated by information input by an input unit as the type of the printing medium to be printed, and be capable of executing a measurement mode and a designation mode. In the measurement mode, the type of the printing medium to be printed is determined by using a measurement result and a reference characteristic values set in advance. In the designation mode, the type of the printing medium to be printed is determined without using the measurement result. The information processing apparatus is configured to, even in the designation mode, change the reference characteristic value set in advance for the type of printing medium indicated by the information input by the input unit based on the measurement result.
