A color picture tube is provided with a glass bulb in which the external surface of the effective display area of the face plate is formed substantially flat and a color selection mask, having the curvature projected toward the face plate, provided opposed to the internal surface of the face plate within the glass bulb. Therefore, the external surface is flat, the mechanical shock resistance characteristic is high, a tension can surely be applied to the color selection mask and moreover vibration of the color selection mask can be prevented even if external vibration is applied thereto.

Therefore, even though the color selecting electrode has a fine pitch with a large screen and a high definition, the cathode ray tube has vibration resistance to prevent color deviation or the like due to the vibrations.

A correcting method to correct a distance between an inner surface of a panel and a color selection mechanism of a cathode-ray tube is disclosed in which a female type machining electrode (21) having a concave portion (21a) same in shape as a panel pin (15) supporting the color selection mechanism is used, a center axis (22) of panel pin (15) and a center axis (23) of female type machining electrode (21) are made eccentric, and one surface of panel pin 15 is shaved by electric spark machining between the female type machining electrode (21) and the panel pin (15) in accordance with an correcting amount of the distance to thereby correct the distance with high precision.

An object of the present invention is to enable production of a flat color selecting mechanism in which no floating of a damper wire is produced, accompanied by flattening of a cathode-ray tube screen. A supporting device for an electron beam landing position selecting mask of a color cathode ray tube having an envelope, a color phosphor screen and an electron gun is disclosed which includes a metal stud pin arranged within the envelope and a spring member attached to the electron beam landing position selecting mask, the spring member being engaged with the metal stud pin so that the electron beam selecting mask is disposed in opposed relation to the color phosphor screen, the spring member having a polygonal engaging aperture bored therethrough at its end portion with which the metal stud pin is engaged wherein the stud pin contacts with the polygonal engaging aperture at three points to thereby settle the position of the electron beam selecting mask and the inner peripheral edge of the polygonal engaging aperture and the peripheral surface of the metal stud pin are fixed together at least at one point other than the three points by welding.
